Cafe 2617, Belconnen | In The Taratory
https://inthetaratory.wordpress.com/2015/08/02/cafe-2617-belconnen
Reviewing anything and everything the ACT and surrounds have to offer. About In The Taratory. The Taratory in pictures. Love letter to Canberra. Cafe 2617, Belconnen. Belconnen Town Centre’s Urban Roast. The cafe is packed by the time we leave. My chocolate milkshake ($6) is creamy and fluffy. Vego breakfast ($16.90). Of course, I have to check that the poached eggs have been cooked perfectly and they don’t disappoint. As for the taste? It’s great. Among the layers is plenty of chorizo slices a...Lathlai...

Reviewing anything and everything the ACT and surrounds have to offer. About In The Taratory. The Taratory in pictures. Love letter to Canberra. Reviewing anything and everything the ACT and surrounds have to offer. About In The Taratory. The Taratory in pictures. Love letter to Canberra. Love letter to Canberra. This is a poem I wrote to Canberra for her 100th birthday, and to celebrate living in Canberra for five years on 17 January, 2013 – it is a cross-post from here. I feel it really sums up perfectly how I feel about Canberra, and what inspires this blog every day, so thought it deserving of its own page. Five years ago today. Your pubs and...

Reviewing anything and everything the ACT and surrounds have to offer. About In The Taratory. The Taratory in pictures. Love letter to Canberra. Recently, we went to Beechworth. Our primary focus was visiting wineries; the taste of two regions festival. We stayed at the Best Western. The units are large (we needed somewhere to put all the wine we bought! If you’re not planning to spend a great deal of time at the hotel (and to be honest, why would you? So much to do! Where do I begin? For something truly...

Reviewing anything and everything the ACT and surrounds have to offer. About In The Taratory. The Taratory in pictures. Love letter to Canberra. La Sable Patisserie, Mitchell. La Sable Patisserie is right up there with Pialligo Estate. As something I’ve been waiting for for a long, long time. Years ago, the hairdresser who essentially created my hair colour (yes, the red hair) mentioned that a family member had worked at Flute Bakery and was quite the pastry chef (talented family, right? Pie looks like a...

On poetry: Nature Poetry Part 1: The Windhover, Gerard Manley Hopkins
http://onpoetry.blogspot.com/2012/04/nature-poetry-part-1-windhover-gerard.html
My thoughts on poetry - generally and specifically. Monday, 9 April 2012. Nature Poetry Part 1: The Windhover, Gerard Manley Hopkins. For many years I firmly believed that nature poetry was completely lame. Why did I think this? This morning morning’s minion, king-. Dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding. Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding. High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing. Then off, off forth on swing,. Turned over by a. The o...

Pebernødder – Danish Favourites
https://danishfavourites.wordpress.com/2016/05/11/blog-post-title
George's favourite Danish recipes. May 11, 2016. May 16, 2016. 125 grams of butter. 125 grams of sugar. 275 grams of flour. 1 teaspoon of baking soda. 05 teaspoon of ground ginger. 05 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. 075 teaspoon of ground cardamom. A pinch of white pepper. Whisk the sugar and butter together — this was hard to do because the butter was cold and lumpy, maybe if you melt your butter a bit first you might find it easier. After lots of kneading, it should look like this. 27 Comments Add yours.
On poetry: Poetry in context: John Donne
http://onpoetry.blogspot.com/2012/02/poetry-in-context-john-donne.html
My thoughts on poetry - generally and specifically. Thursday, 2 February 2012. Poetry in context: John Donne. I heard a rumour that somebody read the poem I put at the end of my first post - John Donne's 'The Flea'. And thought it was a bit distasteful. Perhaps the notion of seducing someone by saying you wished they were a flea sucking on your blood is a little gross. Anyway, this comment made me think about Donne. When I first read Donne as a teenager, I thought he was a horrible misogynist. Elegy XIX:...
Purple fig: April 2015
http://purplefig.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 25, 2015. We've been deluged with all the hoopla around the Gallipoli centenary commemorations. I was astounded to learn that Australian governments (Fed and State), as well as private sponsorship, have spent around $400,000,000 on it - roughly twice that of Britain, France, Germany, Canada and New Zealand COMBINED! Rob's maternal Grandmother Lilly used to keep up postcard correspondence with friends and family members serving overseas in WW1. But the centenary commemoration of the 25th A...
Purple fig: July 2014

Sunday, July 27, 2014. The Canberra region is celebrating truffle season with a full festival program this year. We headed out to Grazing at Gundaroo. Last night, with Jennie and Wayne, for a gala event: a degustation dinner - featuring our region's sublime black truffles, throughout the six course menu. The evening started with a Zierholz Brewery. Truffle infused ale, served at the bar with a scrumptuous duck foie gras with apple on dark rye. Every dish was amazing - and generously flavoured with the fr...
Purple fig: August 2014
http://purplefig.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. An absolutely gorgeous 18oC day in Canberra today - getting ready for the official start of Spring tomorrow. Abi's got a spring in her step with her two new spangly tutus (Granny's work) and continuing sartorial loyalty to Peppa Pig despite her girl crush for Ben and Holly and that wonderful role model Nanny Plum. That Alannah Hill headband never comes off now.Abi even wears it to bed. And I thought I might continue my (very popular) 1975. Series with a few more funny shots .

Sunday, July 12, 2015. Noosa, Brisbane, Sandy. It's been a week of warmth and sunshine, reconnecting with extended family and lots of seafood lunches! This was one of the best seafood lunches this week - at the Marina looking East towards the mouth of the Noosa River - a favourite childhood picnic/swimming spot. It was pretty hard to say goodbye to our lovely apartment 12 on Thursday, with its spectacular Noosa views. We ended of our short Brisbane city stay with a family catch up breakfast at the Gunsho...
Purple fig: Low key birthday
http://purplefig.blogspot.com/2015/06/low-key-birthday.html
Sunday, June 28, 2015. We celebrated Jeremy and Claire's birthdays this year in a "low key" (but astoundingly good) way with a live performance of the VIP Band. Right here in this very living room! Rob joined the boys for an ACDC intro set. They all really rocked! But Rob eventually found he needed a bit more rehearsal time to keep up with the boys. The VIP Band is awesome! Even the guest grand daddy. It was great to welcome Maxie and Rod back too after their OS travels. And Happy Birthday too).
Purple fig: March 2015

Sunday, March 29, 2015. It's been years since we've watched a basketball game. Ollie's team, the U/12 Queanbeyan Road Runners, were playing in the finals of their summer season on Saturday and we enjoyed being part of "team support" on the sidelines. Ollie plays in number 11 jersey. Ollie's team finished the season undefeated - winning the finals 39:53.a fantastic effort and an exciting game to watch - with great skills on show! Who was really stoked about it. She still enjoys a sporting victory! Retrosp...

Kevin is sure that what Galadan is saying is very important. No, really. Honest. But it's an awfully nice day, and the sun is shining, and . . . hey, look at that butterfly, over there, that's kinda pretty, with the wings, and -. Look, it's just not the kind of day when it's easy to focus on your cousin trying to tell you something about battle tactics, even if your cousin is. Also your overlord and one of the most dangerous beings on Fionavar. Kevin looks around fifteen, now. He can ride with the wa...

BLACK MIRROR – SAISON 4. Et puis tu as deux ans!
