So Many Words, So Little Time: 10,000 Word Challenge | A Principle of Writing

https://inthewritelight.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/so-many-words-so-little-time-10000-word-challenge

A Principle of Writing. The best writing is re-writing E.B. White. So Many Words, So Little Time: 10,000 Word Challenge. During the Golden Age of Comics, back in 1930s America, it was typical for a working writer to churn out up to 100,000 words a month. These writers literally never stopped writing. It was the time of the Great Depression and in order to eek out any sort of living, that was the volume expected of them. The novelists among you know that’s a novel in a month. That’s a lot of writing!

The Verdict on Creative Writing Workshops: We Need More Master Programs | A Principle of Writing

https://inthewritelight.wordpress.com/2012/02/07/the-verdict-on-creative-writing-workshops-we-need-more-master-programs

A Principle of Writing. The best writing is re-writing E.B. White. The Verdict on Creative Writing Workshops: We Need More Master Programs. When I posed the question of whether writers thought attending workshops helped the creative writing process, I knew I would get varied responses. I wasn’t wrong. While some writers appreciated the chance to meet with fellow writers, some felt that the communication between writers boiled down to useless ego-massaging. Lots of writers mentioned the loneliness of the ...

Is Writing a Form of Madness? Portrait of a Writer | A Principle of Writing

https://inthewritelight.wordpress.com/2012/02/10/is-writing-a-form-of-madness-portrait-of-a-writer

A Principle of Writing. The best writing is re-writing E.B. White. Is Writing a Form of Madness? Portrait of a Writer. I was listening to the radio last night. There was a man who previously worked in a psychiatric ward being interviewed. He said that madness was anyone who for some reason couldn’t cope with the day-to-day reality of life or that the reality of life couldn’t cope with them. Does that make me mad? For the first few weeks, it usually works out fine. I guess this is what they call the ‘...

The 10,000 Word Challenge Rocks! | A Principle of Writing

A Principle of Writing. The best writing is re-writing E.B. White. The 10,000 Word Challenge Rocks! My start was slow. Sunday morning and the prospect of 10,000 words ahead of me is daunting. Plus I have an article to finish for work. It’s bugging me. I fell asleep last night thinking of a killer headline for it. I also thought of a possible jumping off point for the novel. Down to the novel. Where am I? Back to the grindstone. Where am I now? Well, my character is having a hard old time of it. She’s...

Writers, Don’t You Get Sick of Listening to Advice? | A Principle of Writing

https://inthewritelight.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/writers-dont-you-get-sick-of-listening-to-advice

A Principle of Writing. The best writing is re-writing E.B. White. Writers, Don’t You Get Sick of Listening to Advice? Browsing through a Linked In writing group this morning, I noticed a writer grumbling about the many advice forum notices and posts she received in her inbox. It took far too much time to read them all she complained. She wanted to know how much time other writers spent reading these tips? The reality is that if you’ve been writing for a while you will have heard all this advice before&#...

Tales from the Writing Front | My journey through the world of writing and everything that lies in between…

Tales from the Writing Front. My journey through the world of writing and everything that lies in between…. July 13, 2012. So, it’s been over three months and nothing much to note. My son turned one on June 11. But other than that, not much else to report. Anyway, I figured I’d break the blog silence by doing a weekly happening type thing. As the title suggest, it’s a hodgepodge of random things in my life this week. But two centuries later. If anything, it’s helping to get more world building done.

The Write Place

This is my place to rant, ramble, and compose some masterpieces. Or maybe some pieces that aren't so masterful. Sunday, August 23, 2009. Finally, an Update. Yes, next month I will have to make a project out of kid-proofing. Todd turned 28, we went on vacation, Todd's hours were cut, and I got a haircut. I'm trying to think of anything else, but not too many earth-shaking things have happened. So now I will bombard you with fun photos. Four generations of great girls! Out for the count! Our little Ute fan.
