The Hobbit Hole: June 2014

http://intothehobbithole.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

A bit about me. What I've been reading. Monday, 2 June 2014. First adventures in Chartership. I have taken the plunge and signed up for Chartership. Eek! Chartering has been a vague aim for a while now, something I've mentioned in job interviews when I've been asked where I see myself in X years time. But now I've paid my registration fee, found a mentor, and it is time to actually get on with it! On Facebook which was the brainchild of Maria Giovanna. CILIP East's Candidate Support Officer.

The Hobbit Hole: Blowing away the cobwebs

http://intothehobbithole.blogspot.com/2014/01/blowing-away-cobwebs.html

A bit about me. What I've been reading. Friday, 10 January 2014. Blowing away the cobwebs. I know this kind of post is such a cliche at this time of year, but a combination of the New Year and the Libraries@Cambridge conference have reminded me that I've neglected my blog for far too long! My last post was over a year ago, and so much has happened since then. Rory and I bought a house earlier in the year and we got married in October (see photographic evidence below). We also now have guinea pigs! I was ...

The Hobbit Hole: Academic Skills Session: Navigating the Information Jungle

http://intothehobbithole.blogspot.com/2014/02/academic-skills-session-navigating.html

A bit about me. What I've been reading. Monday, 24 February 2014. Academic Skills Session: Navigating the Information Jungle. Liz Osman and I did two sessions earlier this month as part of the college's Academic Skills Programme. Our first session 'Navigating the Information Jungle' was aimed at first years, and was a kind of 'you've found your feet, where do you go from here? Navigating the Information Jungle. I've adapted the content of the session into three posts on our library blog:.

The Hobbit Hole: October 2012

http://intothehobbithole.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

A bit about me. What I've been reading. Monday, 15 October 2012. Uklibchat at Library Camp 2012. On Saturday I went to my second Library Camp, an unconference event held in Birmingham. While I enjoyed the whole day (and will hopefully blog about it at some point this week), the highlight for me was the I helped to facilitate with other members of the uklibchat. Team on the topic of careers. I arrived at the venue in the middle of the session proposals. Luckily, Linsey and Lyle. Photo by Sarah Childs.

The Hobbit Hole: July 2012

http://intothehobbithole.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

A bit about me. What I've been reading. Sunday, 29 July 2012. What I've been reading in July. I found Mashcat a really interesting unconference. I won't pretend to have understood everything that was talked about, but I definitely learnt a lot! These are the slides/blog posts from my favourite sessions. Ed Chamberlain, Text to data. Gary Green, A Travellers Map in Yahoo Pipes. Really cool visual way to search subject headings referring to places). Owen Stephens, Boutique Catalogues. Links to this post.

Diary of a Library School Work Placement: Part II →. Diary of a Library School Work Placement: Part I. January 25, 2012. All full-time students taking the MA in Library and Information Studies at UCL are required to do a two week work placement in a library of their choice as part of the course. I decided that I would do mine at University College School. For pupils aged between 7 and 10 years, as well as an infant school, known as The Phoenix. Who had recently published a book called. Block Capitals: Professionalism

http://blockcapitals.blogspot.com/2011/07/professionalism.html

A Cambridge library blog. Friday, 22 July 2011. In an earlier post here, I said that I wanted to think about the relation between professionalism and a political commitment. Having since read two essays that deal with the matter and express ideas basically similar to each other, I thought I should at least go into more detail. John Pilger's essay 'Brainwashing the Polite, Professional and British Way'. Is inspired by Jeff Schmidt's book. His study of a country doctor, is another approach.). In Britain, l...

Block Capitals: July 2011

http://blockcapitals.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

A Cambridge library blog. Wednesday, 27 July 2011. I decided my film wasn’t worth remaking. Anyway, the grapes were sour: screencasting hadn’t excited me. For what’s at bottom a series of menu choices, I wondered if the putative puzzled person would find it quicker to take in written instructions, and easier to refer back to them. But really, this only shows that I couldn’t think of a truly visual library computer task (the LibrarySearch. Tuesday, 26 July 2011. To mark those killed. In Oslo and on Utøya,.

Block Capitals: June 2011

http://blockcapitals.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

A Cambridge library blog. Friday, 24 June 2011. Neither did Template Designer give me control over the text size, or font properties other than colour, to apply to the blog description. It didn't give me control over the text size to apply to date headers. And I couldn't have my blog title appear in capitals (which seemed important). On the other hand, you're free to edit the HTML template, where I could do these things. Oh all right—Nintendo games. I'll post later on making my blog. Labels: 9 July 2011.

Block Capitals: Pushnote and Evernote

http://blockcapitals.blogspot.com/2011/09/pushnote-and-evernote.html

A Cambridge library blog. Friday, 2 September 2011. On first sight I thought Pushnote didn't do much that was new; that it was another social bookmarking system like Delicious. I do like those systems: pivot browsing on tags and—better—usernames can sometimes introduce you to worthwhile new sites. I've long lost the habit of keeping a social bookmarking account current, though. I don't think I'm missing much. 9 September 2011 at 10:52. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Girl in the Moon. Pocket universe: July 2011

http://pocketverse.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 27 July 2011. A flock of sneaky water drops. By Steve took it. Since I had very little to say for myself at the Cam23 2.0. Reflection week meetup on Monday, I thought I had better use my blog to express my thoughts about the programme so far. Google docs and Evernote. Have already been useful as places to save thoughts and images to use in this blog, and I will continue to use them. I don't really need to use Doodle. The only thing I don't like and definitely won't be using again is Pushnote.

Musings from a librarian: September 2011

http://nikki-musingsfromalibrarian.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Musings from a librarian. Thursday, 29 September 2011. Have you seen the mess they've made of Delicious. I thought I'd look through the list of bloggers registered with CPD23. And I couldn't search them using the tags. I even tried my own personal list and tags are gone along with some sites! And then I saw this blog post from Phil Bradley. This is sync-ed with my PC at home (where I use Firefox) and I can also log in at work to the Xmarks website. What do you think? Links to this post. I can't get eithe...

The Neon Librarian | Page 2

https://neonlibrarian.wordpress.com/page/2

Newer posts →. October 21, 2012. Last weekend I travelled to Birmingham in order to attend my second annual Library Camp. Event I attended the same event last year and found it really interesting and enjoyable, so I’d booked my tickets early for this one and was looking forward to some inspiring workshops and conversations with the 150 or so other information professionals who would also be attending. A small selection of the cake and other baked goods on offer. After I’d sampled some cake and caught up ...

Into The Hive

I'm choosing to fill a small part of the gray area in my life with random reviews from the realms of cinema, music, and more things that are generally looked down upon by society.
