It occurs to me that I have been fumbling for an off switch for so long that my mind cannot wrap itself fully around this happy accident of life. Addictions, and eating disorders, and manic-depression- the outcome was always terminal and yet, here I am- a real, live girl. Because maybe post 30, I have learned to appreciate the view. Thursday, October 23, 2014. I sung old choir girl hymns. I cursed like a sailor. I sat with tea and sympathy, and with brutal candor, I laid bare my words in the company of grace. I sat with coffee and empathy, and with humble gratitude, I absorbed the words offered up in the company of trust. I danced in the rain. I swam in the ocean. With fierce tenderness, I kissed the wrinkled, rosy cheeks of women whose backs are now curved with time and wisdom. I served the least of these. I crossed a finish line.
