When did ‘formal’ burial and cremation become generalized? What significance did this have for the development of religious belief and human self-awareness? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The Discovery Prog ramme. Who or what is the Discovery Programme? We are often asked this question! Is an Irish archaeological research institute, established as a non-statutory research body by the then Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Charles Haughey in 1991. By 1993, the Discovery Programme came under the remit of the Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, later becoming an autonomous limited company, funded by and under the aegis of the Heritage Council. We continue to develop the exhibition as we prepare it for the European tour and as it travels around Ireland. One the ways we are doing so is by adding video content via QR codes affixed to the relevant panels. This allows the viewer to engage better with the content, but it can also help to explain a site or procedure where a 2D image might not be adequate. Two of the short videos are already online. As more become available, we will share them here and on the YouTube channel:. Enter your comment here.
