Warblers and rumors of warblers. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Monday afternoon a Prothonotary Warbler was reported in Central Park around Turtle Pond. I got there towards evening and didn't see it, but on Tuesday morning it was hawking insects off the Turtle Pond dock and bouncing around the low vegetation on the west side of the pond in all his egg-yolk yellow glory. Sunday afternoon offered a couple of glimpses of Madeleine the hawk at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, but just glimpses. Reports on hawks and other birds of prey from Morningside Heights and upper Manhattan. Manhattan 2015 Nest Checklist Update 3. It's almost July, and Manhattan's baby red-tailed hawks have been fledging from their nests and causing chaos on the local rooftops and in the neighborhood parks. As of this writing, it looks like nine of the ten nests on the "normal" schedule have fledged all their babies. The tenth had just one baby, which died before fledging.
