Ad Hoc Existence: August 2006
http://adhocexistence.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 21, 2006. Fiction, Blogs, and Fiction Blogs. So I'm planning on having something of a Savant novel draft by year's end (preferably earlier), and then knocking the thing into shape by end of next spring. I'm going to jump through the usual hoops involving query letters to agents and editors, and if that goes nowhere, I'm going the POD route. It's rather lonely work, especially compared to the blog. I guess most people just enjoy having their own views read back to them. Chum to the sharks?

Tuesday, June 27, 2006. So Far, So Good. Logan seems to be doing well. He's cracked open his eyes a bit, and all of his signs are where they want them. Posted by Lein Shory at 2:44 PM. Monday, June 26, 2006. The surgeon just came in: the surgery was successful. A huge, incredible relief. He's still got a long way to go, but he's come this far. Posted by Lein Shory at 6:07 PM. A few minutes ago Logan went into surgery. I'm reading Walker Percy's The Thanatos Syndrome. And John Irving's Until I Find You.

Thursday, July 20, 2006. If I do say so. Posted by Lein Shory at 9:05 PM. Tuesday, July 11, 2006. Logan's out of the hospital, with nothing but some temporary oxygen and two medicines. If all goes well, he'll be, in the surgeon's words, "a normal kid." Hard to believe after all this. Posted by Lein Shory at 1:27 PM. Wednesday, July 05, 2006. Posted by Lein Shory at 10:16 PM. Ad Hoc Existence: What's Next
http://adhocexistence.blogspot.com/2006/08/whats-next.html
Tuesday, August 01, 2006. It's difficult to believe that we've reached this point after so many terrible days. If someone had told me on the evening of April 26 that we'd have Logan home and healthy with a very much normal functioning heart, I never would have believed it. I’m also trying to work on the Irate Savant. Novel, something that isn’t easy to do with a full time job and two little kids. In the short term, I may post infrequently and instead concentrate on enjoying these two little guys and work...

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein. I was standing next to one of my friends at the bottom of those stairs, both of us drinking beer from red plastic cups. I turned to him and asked him her name. He told me. I know, you don’t need to say it, I was - am - a coward. What could I say to him? That I had claimed her first by deciding before he started talking to her that I wanted to get to know her? Several months went by befor...

The Gnat's Trumpet

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein. I gradually became aware that I was sitting on a small cart. It was travelling slowly along a narrow concrete track heading down a hill. It was an alpine slide. The last time I’d seen one was the summer after I graduated from high school. That summer I had worked at an amusement park in New Jersey called Action Park. The alpine slide there had been one of the main attractions. I looked f...
