Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes
irememberpasta: August 2011
http://irememberpasta.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Wednesday, 24 August 2011. Zen and the Art of Roasted Peppers. And so for now, I'm practicing deep breathing in my Kundalini Kitchen. Here, I am one with the Universe without even trying. Other favorite kitchen yoga positions: dropping handfuls of pasta into boiling water after I've mindlessly stirred my sauce one more time, or nursing a morning frittata til it's fluffy and just. I'll be going back for these soon and some fagiolini and melanzane. Harder to...
irememberpasta: National Nonna Week
http://irememberpasta.blogspot.com/2012/02/national-nonna-week.html
Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Wednesday, 1 February 2012. In his button-up coat, far right, is Mr. BBQ with his siblings, cousins, and Nonni, fondly remembered by all as Babu and Dido. Nonna Maria TV had me doubled over this week. I laughed so hard I feel like I’ve done a month of situps. Thanks to everyone who sent it to me. It’s vintage. Did our Nonnas all go to the same school? Did they all learn the fine art of what to do with shoes? Met-te-te le scarpe, leva-te-le-scarpe! My big b...
irememberpasta: September 2011
http://irememberpasta.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Tuesday, 13 September 2011. Can you hear the Tarantella music in the air? It's Tomato High Holy Season. Please forgive me for disappearing for a while. I've been covered in tomato sauce as have many of my friends and other family members. I've taken breaks from canning and preserving to help my kids back into their fall routines, a juggling challenge molto supremo. School is about to start, can I manage it all? It's not just the sauce. It's the bonding...
irememberpasta: January 2012
http://irememberpasta.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Tuesday, 24 January 2012. You Know You're Italian When. When did grocery shopping get so complicated? I remember the days when I’d go to one store, pick up everything that was on my list, come home.realize I had forgotten a few items.add them to my list for next week and put everything away while the kids helped and snacked on all the best goods. Now it goes more like this: drive to the store but while the rapini lo. Buy the rapini and a few other things.
irememberpasta: June 2011
http://irememberpasta.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Monday, 27 June 2011. This is the week to reminisce about our roots and be thankful for all we have here. While many of us will sing or hear our national anthem on Friday, there's another song I think of at this time of year called Che Sara. By I Ricchi e Poveri. Do you remember that tune from the early 70s? Sponsored by his Zia who had emigrated to Canada in 1928, my dad sailed for Halifax from Sicily in 1951. He took the. Half her family had left two yea...

My very first fondant cake! |
https://bakingsimplicity.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/my-very-first-fondant-cake
My very first fondant cake! I finished making the flowers on Sunday morning. Then in the afternoon I assembled the cake. The inside consisted of 2 8-inch vanilla sponge cakes both layered. I thought for the filling I would use a chocolate custard, the same one I used from my cannoli. Now came the part that I was dreading all weekend. Rolling out the fondant and not having it tear or stick. The verdict? Marshmallow Fondant Recipe found here: whatcookingamerica.net. Click to print (Opens in new window).

Italian-Canadian heritage, memories and recipes. Wednesday, 29 February 2012. Much of the good times and hilarity I remember was rooted in our frugal roots. Learning to live on less and making the most of what we had. Whether or not it was tomato season. Was a religion that few of us practice anymore. But back to the story I first wrote in 2009. I tried to peddle Growing up Italian-Canadian and what to do about it. Vincenzo Pietropaolo’s powerful and moving photo-documentary book Not Paved with Gold.

I remember playing that!
I remember playing that! Random stuff from a brain frazzled by a lifetime of gaming. Sunday, August 16, 2015. On to the Amstrad. The Amstrad CPC 464 when It finally arrived felt like a breath of fresh air. First impressions were helped immensely by the color monitor. This showed the Amstrad's 16 colors off well and was very sharp when compared to the TV hook ups we had all been used to. Saturday, November 30, 2013. The Dragon 32, Pengo and Star Wars. This brings me on to the cartridge that came with the ...
