Travels in a 35 ft gaff cutter from Antarctica to Greenland and places in between. Tuesday, 21 April 2015. OVERWINTERING IN THE ICE IN A SMALL VESSEL. This post was originally written as a supplement to the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation / Imray publication Arctic and Northern Waters. The post is based on my experience gained during three polar winters on Iron Bark. Was unheated in Antarctica for most of the winter; see Antarctica, Winter. Here is the original article. Many of the issues of choo...

Travels in a 35 ft gaff cutter from Antarctica to Greenland and places in between. Thursday, 12 March 2015. DODGING HURRICANES IN THE NORTH ATLANTIC (WITH MIXED SUCCESS). And I arrived in St Anthony in the north of Newfoundland on 27 July 2013 after spending the previous winter in Greenland. St Anthony is a small, friendly place where slightly odd behaviour is accepted without comment, which was fortunate as it took me a day or two get used to being back amongst people after a year alone. I spent ten day...

clinging to the wreckage: The Fresh Market
http://gerryantics.blogspot.com/2011/08/what-treat-i-have-just-been-taken-to.html
Clinging to the wreckage. Thursday, 4 August 2011. I have just been taken to ' The Fresh Market. A gourmet supermarket here in Savannah. Oh Boy. I had to be forcibly restrained from spending the entire month's budget on fresh baked basil foccacia, lemon pound cake, fresh racks of lamb and soooo much more! I just ate one of these, it was truly scrumptious. Naughty me didn't save even one tiny crumb for TBH! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter. View my complete profile. clinging to the wreckage: March 2011
http://gerryantics.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Clinging to the wreckage. Tuesday, 15 March 2011. I find my emotions oscillating quite wildly this week. Perhaps I can put it down to my 'age'! As we prepare to sail to pastures new I begin to experience the nervous anticipation of the passage. It's not that I am fearful but rather that I have a VERY vivid imagination.quite honestly I do think it's a bit of a woman thing. Certainly the numbers are massively reduced but I can't get over the fact that I feel I have 'let the boat down' Sigh. You sure he said.

Clinging to the wreckage. Saturday, 30 April 2011. Well all we need now is the right weather window and it looks like Monday or Tuesday may be it. The fuel and water tanks are full, we are just doing a bit of provisioning. The charts are ready the route entered in the GPS. All the laundry is up to date. I have been checking entry requirements for the USA and hope(! I have them right. So farewell again for a couple of weeks until we ready land again, somewhere in Florida we anticipate. As soon as the sun ...

Clinging to the wreckage. Monday, 18 July 2011. Time, Opera and cooking. Goodness we have been busy this week. Time is passing very rapidly and we really have to get a move on if we are going to get north before the winter sets in. TBH has finally kicked all the leaks into touch, yeah! Now we are servicing the windvane steering gear and still have to fix a new exhaust pipe to the engine. The old one has developed a rather nasty leak. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Not all who wander.are lost. TWO PEOPLE, ONE CAT AND THEIR FERRO GAFFER HANNAH, AT LARGE. The boat, her crew and the first 10 years. Saturday, 30 May 2015. A touch of fog. The fog came in and we crept slowly forward but mostly drifted. Sometime it would lift a little and we saw puffins and whales nearby. But mostly the fog lay all around us; visibility often as little as 100 metres but mostly around 500-800 metres. May some 729 nm and 9 1/2. With the passing of miles our main had become thinner and we we...

Not all who wander.are lost. TWO PEOPLE, ONE CAT AND THEIR FERRO GAFFER HANNAH, AT LARGE. The boat, her crew and the first 10 years. Wednesday, 5 November 2014. We settled into our wait on the Guadiana with as much grace as we could muster, using the time to visit friends further up river and a visit to Mertola. Difficult to get to by boat as the river is shallow and rock-strewn, it makes an interesting visit by car. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A boat full of crocks.
