Mercurious: October 2009

Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Thursday, October 29, 2009. But it also occurs to me that my perspective is colored by an expectation of affluence that is perhaps a bit unreasonable to begin with. The last 30 years of so has seen a period of pretty unprecedented wealth among white-collar Americans, and who is to say that this current slump is not a long-overdue reality check for our entire culture? We American baby-boomers were unbelievably lucky to have dropped onto the planet at the time w...

Mercurious: June 2010

Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Monday, June 28, 2010. An Introduction to Pain. Last week, though, fates gave me just a small taste of real pain. It was a lesson my education has been sorely lacking. All I know is that it hurt, big time. It hurt in the way that causes you to gag and pass out, even when doped up on morphine, at the moment the paramedics try to lift you onto the stretcher. I've observed some things about this kind of sudden physical injury and associated pain. Posted by The Geezers.

Mercurious: April 2010

Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Time for Me to Move to Mars. I think of myself as relatively well informed, but every so often I learn of some new ugliness found on the underbelly of our species. Silly me; from time to time I even begin to think our species is a noble one. A recent Supreme Court decision has struck down a law forbidding the distribution of films depicting illegal cruelty to animals. The court carefully notes that it does not condone crush videos, but can't...

Mercurious: September 2010

Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Autumn in More Ways than One. Here in Minnesota, by the time the calendar announces the start of autumn, we're already in full sway. A few of the maples begin turning their colors in early September, and my staghorn sumac was hinting yellow by mid month. Winter, too, will impatiently come well before the Dec. 22 calendar date, often settling in here shortly after Halloween. Posted by The Geezers. Wednesday, September 8, 2010. 8226; A pa...

Mercurious: December 2009

Tending the Inner and Outer Landscape. Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Book and a Movie for December. In a pleasant surprise, I stumbled upon The Book Thief. Story of a young girl in Nazi Germany, so you might not think this is holiday reading, especially since the narrator is Death himself (now you know why I like it). But this is an exceedingly charming and heartwarming book that continued to surprise me in quiet ways right to the end. . Posted by The Geezers. A Theory, part II. Posted by The Geezers.

G U C C I Muse: The Week's End, Quiet Man
http://guccimuse.blogspot.com/2008/05/weeks-end-quiet-man.html
Friday, May 2, 2008. The Week's End, Quiet Man. On Saturday, I had plans with my sister in law and my other brother’s girlfriend who wants to be my sister in law. We were going out drinking. We never went out together before. I had invited Ricky the day before and he seemed tepid about going. I reminded him that Dane was more enthusiastic. We arrived at Boat which for the elegance it has, is in a freaking mini strip mall type of place which does not even face the road. We enter Boat. It was incredibl...
