I SHOULD be a minimalist. Thoughts from an aspiring semi-minimalist. May 31, 2014 1 Comment. How do I want to spend my time? Who do I want to spend my time with? And because there are no obvious answers to those questions (other than spending time with my husband when he’s not traveling), I find myself in the process of redesigning my life. Here’s what I know about myself so far:. I am an introvert. I am a rebel. I am an environmentalist. Again, not always in practice, but I am saddened by the unnece...
How to minimize being impacted by “cultural imprinting” in advertising | I SHOULD be a minimalist.

I SHOULD be a minimalist. Thoughts from an aspiring semi-minimalist. How to minimize being impacted by “cultural imprinting” in advertising. September 29, 2014 3 Comments. I read an article. This morning about how ads work (and how they don’t work) and the author describes the difference between how we think advertising works:. Ads make you want something by associating the thing being advertised to a feeling/value/state-of-being you want, (“emotional inception”). The downside, though, is that some of th...

I SHOULD be a minimalist. Thoughts from an aspiring semi-minimalist. Decluttering: Core Desired Feelings in 2015. January 4, 2015. For 2015, I’m embracing the ideas detailed by Danielle LaPorte in her book,. Specifically, rather than setting resolutions — which have never worked for me — I’ve focused on which feelings I want to have this year. After much deliberation, I’ve settled on Inspired, Intentional, Present. About how I use my space) starting with my office and den and doing my closet this morning.

I SHOULD be a minimalist. Thoughts from an aspiring semi-minimalist. The push for generosity. February 24, 2015. I read Joshua Becker’s post last night titled “ We Are Wealthy. And Why That Matters. I don’t think so) And if I did nothing to deserve it, how is my journey in this life related to that affluence? This is the wellspring of generosity for me. What motivates you to give? Monday, May 25, 2015. I've never been big on change just for change's sake. No, I'd much rather get things exactly as I like and have them stay that way. But the thing about gardens, houses, and, well, life, is that even if things seem quite perfect for the moment, they eventually change. Sometimes they change for the better, and sometimes not. And we have little choice but to adapt. Thursday evening I went to the garden center and spent a lovely evening picking out two dwarf butterfly bushes, a baptisa ...

Monday, June 1, 2015. S ummer lawn by Rachel Pasch. Picture a typical summer and what comes to mind? The beach, surely. Ice cream cones and bike rides, perhaps. For the 80% of Americans who have a lawn, summer just isn't summer without a fantastic living green carpet to enjoy it on. With Americans and their lawns anyway? But it's not just the upkeep these non-native monolithic monocultures require that really gets me. It's that everyone is so darn obsessed with the idea of the perfect lawn that it's ...

Sunday, January 26, 2014. The Year Winter Came Back. Yesterday's blowing snow made it hard to see across the street. It's sad that our usual January average of 30F feels like a heatwave in comparison. Cold weather makes the cats extra cuddly. This winter has also meant a lot of hibernating, which can be fun for a weekend or two but can get old when you feel like you can't, or shouldn't, go out. How are you faring in this weather (or for some of you, the record heat waves)? Monday, January 20, 2014. First...
Delightful Decluttering: It's hard to declutter books
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2014/05/its-hard-to-declutter-books.html
It's hard to declutter books. From my reading, it seems that getting rid of books is a challenge for many people. It's medium-hard for me, not so much because I'm getting rid of a book per se, but because I can always see the possibilities in any book as an art or craft project. Vintage books with yellowed pages are great for making those paper wreaths you see all over Pinterest. Hardcover books are fun to alter, and make great art journals. You can tear out pages and draw, paint, or print on them. Last ...
Delightful Decluttering: Decluttering cookbooks and recipes
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2014/08/decluttering-cookbooks-and-recipes.html
Decluttering cookbooks and recipes. Awhile ago Colleen at 365 Less Things. Asked why keep cookbooks? Her post inspired me to take another look through my own cookbooks and recipes to see what I might want to thin out. I know a lot of people love to cook and have shelves of cookbooks in their kitchen, but I don't. I'm not an adventurous cook, so I never had all that many cookbooks to deal with in the first place, but I did find some that I no longer used, so I recycled them. Here's what I got rid of:.
Delightful Decluttering: Where visitors enter: cringe-worthy or clutter free?
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2012/02/where-visitors-enter-cringe-worthy-or.html
Where visitors enter: cringe-worthy or clutter free? I was just reading at Small Notebook. And ran across an interesting post about what visitors see. When they enter our homes. Rachel says that one of the most important things when unexpected visitors arrive is to NEVER apologize for your mess. I agree with this. Whether your home is messy or not, if you don't draw their attention to it, a lot of people wouldn't be paying attention anyway. They are there to see you, not your house. I enjoy Small Notebook.
Delightful Decluttering: Art table decluttered
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2012/03/art-table-decluttered.html
Here's my small art table. It's gotten pretty cluttered lately with fabrics and art supplies that need to be put away. You'll notice some areas behind my table that contain clutter. That's not my clutter; it's my husband's. ;-). He has a small table right behind mine where he refurbishes bike parts for the old bikes that he restores. He hasn't straightened out his table yet, but I did mine this morning. It took just a few minutes, and now I have a clear space to work on again. Todays declutter items are ...
Delightful Decluttering: Bookcase declutter
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2014/04/bookcase-declutter.html
I was painting and had to move a bookcase. While I was at it, I took a look through a couple of shelves to see what books we might be willing to let go this time. I put twenty-one books into a bag to take to the recycling center with us this weekend. Not bad for ten minutes' worth of decluttering. Thank you for visiting. Your comments are always welcome. Delightful Decluttering: T-Shirt Tangle: Organizing Messy T-Shirt Drawers
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2013/05/t-shirt-tangle-organizing-messy-t-shirt.html
T-Shirt Tangle: Organizing Messy T-Shirt Drawers. Does your husband have more clothes than you do? Mine does. His t-shirt drawers have bugged me for years because he has so many- two bureau drawers stuffed to the gills. Even though I go through them periodically and ask which shirts can be thinned out, they seem to multiply somehow anyway, and no matter how I've folded them, I've not been able to free up much drawer space- until today. Thanks for the tip, Andrea. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Declu...
Delightful Decluttering: Spray paint, wicker baskets, old phone
http://declutteringdiva.blogspot.com/2011/12/spray-paint-wicker-baskets-old-phone.html
Spray paint, wicker baskets, old phone. While I was in the basement putting in a load of laundry, I looked around to see if there was anything I could thin out in just a few minutes down there. I found these things to get rid of:. 4 partial cans of spray paint. 1 small wicker and metal plant holder. 4 assorted wicker baskets (have way too many). 2 metal end shelves that go on a camping grill that was given away earlier (will take to person who now has the stove). 1 worn out dishtowel.

Sunday, 22 July 2012. I have a lot of power right now. I could write anything. Including my assignment that I'm currently avoiding. I should probably just get on to that. I Should Be a Klingon's Blog. The Life and Times of a Divorced Man in an Alternate World. What just happened in America? It has been almost 12 hours since the news came down that Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Many of my friends and I are wondering how the hell that happened! How could the polls be so very wrong? How could a candidate who presented himself as so vile be put in…. Continue reading →. Life in an Alternate world. Life is a circle. Enjoy the ride! I should be an adult by now
I should be an adult by now. Still figuring it out. Sunday, February 7, 2016. Watching the 50th Superbowl on tv. I'm in a really different place from last year. Meaning that last year I was at a Superbowl party with people I didn't really care about, except for SH of course. This year, I'm just at home, but feeling more . Wow 3 yellow flags. Right now the score is 10 to 0, the Broncos are winning over the Panthers. Yes to a Carolina touchdown! Not having the whole entire downstairs of my apartment smell ...

January 3, 2015. Days and months pass so quickly lately, I can hardly keep up with what day it is! As it stands I am entering the final days of my kids winter break and I truly believed it to be Sunday until just about 5 minutes ago. Admittedly, it has felt like Sunday every day for the past week! I have been taking a lot of pictures with my iPhone 5s (and oh yeah, there is a newer better model out already! Using the VSCOcam app, and have generally LOVED the results. I Should be Cleaning House
Wednesday, January 1, 2014. I finally figured out the sparkler writing trick. I've wanted to do it forever but just could never get it down. I guess after everything I've learned this last year, I realized last night I knew how to do it! Go figure. It was pretty simple after all. Well, I did have a little help from my eight year old, Aidan. I used him to get my focus right and to snap the picture after I got my settings right. It has been AMAZING. Now, let some more New Year fun begin! Links to this post.
