The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective
Is It June Yet?: March 2011
http://isitjuneyet.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT? As I have said, just the nomination was an immense honor and placing as a finalist is still very moving to me, but what had to be said had to be said. One of the questions posed was a question that lies at the heart of why teachers are often mistreated and always underpaid. Yes, she meant besides teach. This notion of "professional volunteerism". Everyone remembers the tea...
Is It June Yet?: There's No Biz Like Ed Biz!

Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Friday, February 25, 2011. There's No Biz Like Ed Biz! The President recently urged the youth of America to become teachers- a noble request, we can agree. But frankly, why should they? Now, you might ask, why did I not eject him instantly? HE JUST DOESN”T GIVE A $%&*! But, you ask yourselves, was he eventually removed from his “teacher-education” program? February 26, 2011 at 2:12 PM. Thanks for this post. It speaks volumes...
Is It June Yet?: October 2010
http://isitjuneyet.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. 1 Self Actualization Needs. Self respect, personal worth, autonomy). 3 Love and Belongingness Needs. Love, friendship, comradeship). Security; protection from harm). Food, sleep, stimulation, activity). So, you ask, why did I even consider such a move? How could I give up such well-earned security? Teachers in my district have started to face serious pay and health benefi...
Is It June Yet?: November 2010
http://isitjuneyet.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Friday, November 12, 2010. Many teachers know they need to teach analytical thinking, but they, themselves, have limited analytical powers. That one has read and perhaps in the best of instances has recognized the subtleties of a text does not an English teacher make, I am sorry to say. The art of knowing and responding to what his/her individual students need. The art of being a lifetime learner. The art of a teacher’s be...
Is It June Yet?: "The thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to. . ."

Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Friday, December 17, 2010. The thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to. . .". Or some other sort of glycemia that his head would suddenly drop down onto the desk and. . . . lights out. The first time this happened, I myself nearly passed out, but the kids knew exactly what to do and mobilized instantly- one to the cafeteria for orange juice, the other to the restroom for a cool paper towel. I have taught for the last 29 ye...

43rdYear: Continued: April 2010
http://43rdyear.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 17, 2010. I lost a friend the other day. And by “lost” I don’t mean misplaced. There is no need to plaster posters all over telephone poles or create milk cartons with her picture on the side. I know exactly where she is. So she isn't "lost" exactly. It’s just that we’re not friends anymore. That’s ok. Actually, I understand. But it still bums me out. It still makes me sad. And it still makes me miss my friend and that bond we had however long ago. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Saturday, August 29, 2009. Perhaps I failed to mention, Child One is now a driver. . It was with great anticipation that I awaited the day of her test at the DMV. . And I admit that I pushed her to make the appointment, pushed her to get her license as soon as she was able. . And now, Child One is a driver. . And I am no longer necessary. . Yet more proof of my middle-aged insignificance. . And as long as the lady who lives in the GPS of the Prius knows how to get where she wants to go. . But the ...

Saturday, March 27, 2010. One more thing to love about LA:. A trip to the LA Flower Mart is NEVER a bad idea. Links to this post. Would Sig Other have engaged in thirty minutes of conversation if “Ryan Hanks” had not presented as a white, well-off, well-educated, well-meaning young man? But that isn’t what fascinates me. The modern world is so suspicious, so cynical, isn’t going door-to-door the HARDEST way to scam a buck? Wouldn’t almost anything be easier? Links to this post. Saturday, March 20, 2010.
43rdYear: Continued: January 2010

Sunday, January 24, 2010. I am invisible. I am not seen when I walk down the street, not seen in the back of an elevator, not seen in a crowd. I remember very distinctly the moment that my invisibility became clear to me. It was my 42. Year is to find a way to quiet that part of me, to feel relevant, to feel visible, to still be a dame but also to be seen. Links to this post. Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Come Fly With Me! Years ago, I kept a journal specifically meant to document my cross-country travels.

Wednesday, July 22, 2009. My friend Renee called me today out of the blue. . I haven’t talked to Renee in a while though I didn’t realize how long. . 8220;How are you? 8220;I’m in my wedding dress.” . Oh dear, I thought to myself – she got married YEARS ago – was she having a breakdown? Had she gotten married and divorced and remarried again? 8220;I’m playing Princess with Ava,” she said. Oh – I thought – thank god - she hasn’t lost her mind afterall. . How old is she now? 8221; . The truth held wit...

Sunday, November 29, 2009. Don't let this face fool you. Alpha Dog (foreground) and Beta Dog (background) look innocent enough, but beneath these sweet cuddly exteriors lurk the stinking, fetid souls of skunk hunters! Last week's attack still clinging to fur. Seems a relaxing return home is not in the cards. Links to this post. Links to this post. Friday, November 20, 2009. Thursday, May 28, 2009. The morning before I left for Paris, I woke up jammed between Sig Other and Hank. This isn't as kinky as it sounds. We’re all familiar with the term “family bed.” . And while its true that the children have now outgrown the stage in their periodic interruptions middle of the night visits resulted in Sig Other and I relinquishing romantic privacy for blissful sleep, still there is no rest for the weary (or in this case, the indulgent). . And I resisted. . Coco had two homes be...
43rdYear: Continued: Hospitality???
http://43rdyear.blogspot.com/2011/10/hospitality.html
Wednesday, October 19, 2011. So a fruitbowl, I imagine, stands for hospitality in the modern age. Long gone are the days of truly personal touches - a favorite cookie or preferred flower. To be honest, I'd even prefer a fresh fig or apricot or representation of anything seasonal in its stead. But grapefruit we get and so grapefruit, it seems, we shall endure. May 14, 2012 at 6:23 AM. Man and Van Guildford. December 21, 2012 at 12:50 PM. January 18, 2014 at 2:26 AM. February 3, 2014 at 8:44 PM.

Sunday, February 21, 2010. The Last Real Bad Guys. Child One is working on a paper for Modern U.S. History and she’s chosen to write about Guantanamo Bay. So we’ve been talking a lot about habeas corpus and constitutional law, the Geneva Convention, the war on terror, the failure of the Bush administration to declare war and all sorts of other things that happened while Child One was busy growing up and the rest of us were idly sitting by complaining a whole lot but doing very little. They were just bad.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011. The 168th Post in which Child One ACTUALLY turns 18 and Sig Other is inconsolable. Raucous Bollywood celebrations aside, Child One’s actual birthday is today. And notwithstanding her deeply held belief that the 4. Of July is a national holiday held in anticipation of her date of birth, this is the day, eighteen years ago when the little rosy cheeked, tow-headed girl entered the world. I wasn’t there that day. I didn’t come into her life for many years after. She could not imagine l...

Is it July yet?
Is it July yet? Sunday, May 4, 2008. I would have way more time to accomplish school work if I weren't constantly quoting movies. So after I tried for a super-duper long time (that's an exact amount) to narrow down the choices for my mix-tape of earworms, I discovered that I simply couldn't do it. I had a plethora of songs (jefe, would you say that I have a plethora of pinatas? And I was way too attached to too many of them so I decided to "pull over" (pull over! There wolf, there castle! As much as I do.
Is It June Yet?
Is It June Yet? The Musings of the Bemused: A Veteran Teacher's Perspective. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Plays Well With Others. What does it take for a person to be someone who “plays well with others”? Does it have to be someone who’s a leader? Someone who cares too much? Someone who cares too little? Someone who takes the extra steps? Or an efficiency expert who sits back and lets everyone else do the work? Or someone who just cooperates? But what about the best players? Or does it mean that one should sh...

Is It Just Another Day?
Is It Just Another Day? My husband and I were born and raised in a smaller area in Illinois and recently moved to North Dakota for my career. This is mainly for family and friends to see just how boring or exciting our life is "In the North" on our new journey. Sunday, October 23, 2011. Feeling a little sorry for myself. I know they have been doing it for years, but geesh. Thursday, September 29, 2011. This was written on Wed. but i wanted to add the pics and finally had time today. Austin marched in his...
Seeking Justice
Seeking Justice From the Tasmanian Legal System. This Site is supporting a search for Justice, seeking compensation for Professional misconduct by Legal and Accounting principals. There seems to be some collusion amongst the tightly knit Legal and Government organisations to ignore this proven behaviour, and deprive the Plaintiff of justice. The situation is that banking transactions were carried out by a Lawyer, without authorisation, that misdirected $220,000 of the plaintiffs funds. Naturally, any suc...
