Rock formations along this coast are unlike those anywhere else on the island. In one area colorful undulating formations emerge from smooth pebble beaches and around the next bend. I've had no need for my bike during these last several walks as I've begun and ended where I started. Lane Island was my home for a few years back in the 50's and so memory, often poignancy, was a constant companion during this, my walk around the last of the four islands bridged to Vinalhaven. A walking tour of the perimeter of Vinalhaven, hosted by Phil Crossman. Thursday, March 31, 2011. Leg 51, the southwest half of Penobscot Island. I thought there'd be too much muck to struggle through getting from Vinalhaven's shore out to Penobscot Island so I took a kayak and launched myself from a place oppositte the island's mid-point. Here, inexplicably, the mussel shells are carefully scupted to from a ridge elevated way above its surroundings as if forces moved on it from all directions equally.

In addition to that exciting development, Finn has also decided to use the moderately warmer weather to haul out the kiddy pool, strip down, and plonk his bottom down in the 1/2 inch of water I've filled it up with before leaping up, yelling "brrrrr! And running inside to be dried off, just to do it all over again moments later. Ah, springtime. How I love you.

We are now enamored with all things dental - floss! New toothbrush (pooh toothbrush no less)! Ah, he was such a champ. The first few months, heck YEAR of Finn's life certainly took its time, but now that he's 2, and with Lorelei such an easy baby, WOAH.day follows day follows day and sometimes I just want to hit a pause button. PAUSE, baby girl! I just want to snuggle these little faces, but I also can't wait to see who they become.
