Rialto - Island Life

30 October 6 December 2009. The Rialto Bridge in Venice and the history of the exhibition space being a former butcher’s shop inspired this exhibition. Both places could be described as former places of commerce where people met and exchanged goods. In the exhibition pigskins, brutal butcher hooks, dolls heads and absurd ceramic characters occupied the walls and floors. An eerie world of strange rituals and demonic sculptures greeted the viewer. Museum Sønderjylland Kunstmuseet i Tønder. 15 September 19 November 2007. The inspiration for this exhibition was the characteristics of old fairgrounds where various forms of entertainment would visit a place for a short period of time. Typical elements such as a beer fountain, an escape artist, a knife throwing act and a Ferris wheel were all part of our version of a fairground. All artworks and posters by Island Life. Orgie - Island Life

21 May 17 July 2010. As a phenomenon the orgy is characterized as something decadent, without restraint as something that is beyond conventions. In Ancient Greece the orgy was a secret ritual of frenetic eating and drinking, practiced to worship the gods Bacchus and Dionysus. In similar ways this exhibition was an orgy of cultural, religious and historical references, an orgy of materials, an orgy of associations and of visual impressions. 26 March 16 May 2010. For this exhibition Greek and Roman sculptures, Asian warrior culture, the Great Pyramids of Giza and nomadic lifestyle greatly inspired us. This resulted in a caravan of sculptures, sampled and merged from different historical eras and materials. The exhibition title Blind Caravan points to the Renaissance painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder’s painting 'The Blind Leading the Blind'. All artworks and posters by Island Life. Annesofie Sandal is a Korean born, Danish adoptee who lives and works in New York and Copenhagen. She holds a MFA from The Royal Danish Academy of Visual Arts in Copenhagen, from where she graduated in 2005. In 2007 she founded the exhibition group. Together with Charlotte B. Johansen. With whom she still collaborates. Inbetween solo projects she organizes group shows with an international roster of artists. More info can be found on Sandaleum.org.
