1993년 3월 13일 제주도 세화에서. 해마다 여름이면 시집과 화첩을 들고 섬으로 돌아다녔다 . 안면도 황도 덕적도 용유도 울릉도 완도 신지도 고금도 진도 흑산도 홍도 거제도 제주도 내나라도 외나라도 쑥섬 거문도. 이렇게 돌아다니며 때로는 절벽에서 때로는 동백 숲에서 때로는 등대 밑에서 때로는 어부의 무덤 앞에서 때로는 방파재에서 생활이 뭐고 인생이 뭔가 고독은 뭐고 시는 무엇인가 생각하며 물위에 뜬 섬을 보았다. 그 때마다 나는 섬이었다. 물 위에 뜬 섬이었다. 그러나 통통거리면 지나가는 나룻배 벙 벙 울며 떠나는 여객선 억센 파도에 휘말리며 만년을 사는 기암절벽 양지바른 햇볕에 묻혀 조용히 바다를 듣는 무덤, 이런 것들은 내 가슴을 시원하게 하는 낙원이었다. 그러고 보면 나는 살아서 낙원을 다닌 셈이다. 그 낙원에서 맑고 깨끗한 고독을 마실 때 나는 소리치고 싶었다. 그것을 시로 쓴 것이다. 이생진(李生珍) 시인은 충남 서산에서 성장했고, [현대문학]을 통해 김현승 시인의 추천으로 등단했습니다.
