Issues in Public Relations

Thursday, 26 March 2009. I have to say I found the last class of the course a bit of a strange experience. While the intention was to end on a reflective note, sometimes reflection can be a bit like eating your own face. Employers in this country don't want academically trained PR types. When all academia trains you to do is think too hard about boring things. Perhaps I'm being too negative about this. Really all this class made me want to do was to get out there and actually get a job. I certain...It is...

Issues in Public Relations: February 2009

Saturday, 28 February 2009. Meanderings on the subject of corporate ethics II. OK, so I asked Adam Garfunkel. Whether my fictional boardroom exists anywhere, and he was diplomatic in his response. His answer went something like, sure people are well motivated, even in boardrooms, but ultimately CSR initiatives have to make business sense. This, I suppose should be self evident, unless obviously you're a tambourine weilding idealist like myself. The current financial environment seems less conducive to et...

http://issuesinpublicrelations.blogspot.com/2009/02/meanderings-on-subject-of-corporate.html

Thursday, 12 February 2009. Meanderings on the subject of corporate ethics. Exist in the boardroom. Sadly I've never sat in a boardroom, at least not with board of directors, so I can only imagine (see above for my rather tragic graphical rendering of ethics in the boardroom. Maybe people are right that as long as shareholders are there to be sated, and a profit seeking imperative remains enshrined in law, this ideal will never be acheived. Contemporary Theory and Issues in Public relation: March 2009

http://classblogcarmentorres.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. Is a PR Degree Necessary? The last class of the semester posed the question of the importance of having PR degree to work in the industry or if it is all about connections and personal qualities. So to conclude this statement, I must say that it doesn’t matter how much you study or how good your grades are, because if you don’t get to know the right people, you will probably find it very difficult to have a good job. Contemporary Theory and Issues in Public relation: Crisis Management

http://classblogcarmentorres.blogspot.com/2009/03/crisis-management.html

Thursday, March 12, 2009. Crisis management is a very big issue for every public relations practitioner, because when there is crises management there is a need of good PR work. What we did in class was recreate a hypothetic crisis management situation, and tried to act as if it was real. We, as a whole, where divided into groups and the outcome of how all the different parts on a crisis situation where acting and how everything worked out was really interesting. As the book that I’m reading curren...

Thursday, February 26, 2009. Corporate social responsibility is related to ethics because it has to do with what is morally correct, and where is it respectful for the environment and for the society to invest, or in other words to make business. Contemporary Theory and Issues in Public relation: Identity and Country Branding

http://classblogcarmentorres.blogspot.com/2009/03/identity-and-country-branding.html

Saturday, March 7, 2009. Identity and Country Branding. 8220;Culture is always a form of pretence. It pretends to be itself, at times may even parody itself. Your culture is also the full gamunt of association you allow yourself to reside within – not necessarily what you say but how you say it – not necessarily what you wear but how you wear it” (Mark Rowden. Identity. P.133). This quote illustrates what I mentioned in the above paragraph, and adds to the idea of how you transmit your identity. Contempo...
