Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Sailing and the Fringe. Late in August, we did some more sailing in the Borders, and visited the Fringe festival on the side. It was our first time, but certainly not the last! Some walking to warm up. Kelsey's turn. Our tent on the shore. Break in the sun. Delayed by berry deposits. Going was tough. Standing around much easier. At the Castle in Edinburgh. Castle now bathed in fog. Some of the nicest cafes I know are in Edinburgh. Sunday, October 13, 2013. Nieder Olm and Berlin.

Sunday, November 23, 2014. After five days in Seoul we flew to Osaka and took a train directly to Kyoto, the cultural capital of Japan. We spent three days this easy-to-get-to-know city and have a first glimpse of Japanese style and culture. The first thing we did on arrival was order sushi to eat on the train; immediately providing entertainment for passengers watching me struggle! We stayed in a traditional Japanese inn in Kyoto. Complete with futon beds and chairs without legs. Kimonos braving the rain.

The rest of my time was divided between the City of Cork with its southern charm, good music and exquisite stout, and Dublin, with its eastern charm, good music and exquisite stout. And old friends (old as in from former times: many of them don't even qualify for senior discount at bingo halls) and hunting grounds (figuratively speaking), always such a pleasure to visit. Ascent. Martijn, Jorien, Joakim and Tobias in Rovereto. Historical Festival in Mori. Mori, another nearby village, organises a yearly historical festival. The whole village is transformed back into time, including old cars, traditional food being served, and you could only pay in lira. We decided to go there with a big group. Although the weather was bad, we still had a great time, and also managed to do a grappa tasting (nice but it is not from Islay). There where some really great old cars. WO I type music.

Martijn, Jorien, Joakim and Tobias in Rovereto. Fun evening at Joakim's school. Joakim's maestras are not only very nice, they also organise a lot of out of school activities. They invited all the parents to come over in the evening to watch their children perform a play at the end of November. The play was about a snake who ate everyone. Martijn, Jorien, Joakim and Tobias in Rovereto. Merano was one of empress Sissi's favourite cities, and we really like it as well. There are beautiful mountains, nice restaurants, and they speak German. Importantly, it is also home to the Forst brewery. Here are some pics from our visit early October. Taking a stroll along the river. Next to the river. There was a nice play ground next to the river. Tobias loved the slide! The Forst brewery also has a nice restaurant. Is on the way to Merano!
