My Fakesgiving | i stuff my face …
https://istuffmyface.wordpress.com/2011/11/21/my-fakesgiving
I stuff my face …. The culinary experiments and adventures of a dc-area amateur gourmand. November 21, 2011. The impressive spread (and chefs). Not one to shy away from cooking challenges, I took it upon myself, as one of the hosts for this year’s Fakesgiving, to my first whole turkey. No practice run. No nets. Do or die. Obviously, I would smoke it. As I am oft to do, I consulted by main smoking resources – Charcuterie. And the Virtual Weber Bullet. This 15 pounder barely fit in the smoker. The rest of ...

I stuff my face …. The culinary experiments and adventures of a dc-area amateur gourmand. Seasonal Pantry Supper Club. October 3, 2012. Some secrets I like to keep to myself, but some are eventually revealed despite my best efforts. Dan O’Brien chef/owner of Seasonal Pantry. Was recently unveiled as a cheftestant on the upcoming season of Top Chef Seattle. Here’s how this works. Every couple of weeks, Dan comes up with a new multiple course menu. The second and more recent time we went, the menu on paper...
Smoked Turkey Pho | i stuff my face …

I stuff my face …. The culinary experiments and adventures of a dc-area amateur gourmand. November 29, 2014. This is made entirely from leftover items from Thanksgiving and some standard pantry items (at least mine). While I used mushrooms and celery leaves because that’s what I had, you should use whatever you have or just go traditional and pick up mung bean sprouts, jalapeno, and thai basil. And your turkey may not have been smoked like mine was. I borrowed the spicing heavily from here. Slice the oni...

I stuff my face …. The culinary experiments and adventures of a dc-area amateur gourmand. A $2 bunch of mint yields at least 3 different applications (and then some). April 23, 2012. While gathering ingredients for some homemade summer rolls (another story unto itself, I suppose,) I procured the most seemingly innocent bunch of fresh mint at my local market. When I got it home, I unpacked the bunch for washing and discovered this tiny looking bunch ended up being about 10 cups worth. Pea and Mint Dip.

Kitchen Monkey: French Laundry-Inspired Huevos Rancheros with Poached Egg and Pureed Roasted Poblano
http://kitchenmonkey.blogspot.com/2011/10/french-laundry-inspired-huevos.html
French Laundry-Inspired Huevos Rancheros with Poached Egg and Pureed Roasted Poblano. Clearly the picture you see above is not huevos rancheros. It is, rather, pan-roasted scallops with morel mushrooms and aspargus puree, which is what the Missus and I had for dinner Friday night. The recipe came from Thomas Keller's "The French Laundry Cookbook," which I recently purchased. Keller is a bona fide culinary genius according to everyone. Some day I will eat at the French Laundry. A number of Keller's recipe...

First Anniversary Trip - the Shenandoahs and the Joshua Wilton House. The Joshua Wilton House - Fantastic Restaurant in Harrisonburg, VA. I've officially been "The Missus" for a year. To celebrate our wedding anniversary, KM and I spent a weekend at a B&B in Harrisonburg, Virginia, nestled in the Shenandoahs. The B&B was fine, but as KM and I have come to say of pretty much any place we've stayed since our wedding night - this was no Hay Adams. One thing to know about me is that I was a vegetarian for 8 ...

Tuna Tataki - 2010 Update (Endangered Food! Just a short post today. It turns out that one of my most continuingly popular posts is one I did years ago about tuna tataki, which you'll find here. It still gets about 30 to 50 hits a day. So, I thought it time for a very quick update. First, now that I live in D.C., the prices I mentioned in the old post are sadly inaccurate- at least, for D.C., where sushi-grade tuna can easily run $22 per pound. Yeah, OK, I am preaching. Big deal. Posted by Kitchen Monkey.

Panko Jumbo Shrimp Salad and Ginger Avocado Dressing. Oh the gluttony. The blissful, blissful gluttony. I ask you, verily, why content yourself with one Thanksgiving Dinner? But did we stop there? The salad, on the other hand, was. The salad dressing was rather stand-out, if I may say. Sadly I didn't keep track of the proportions, so the below recipe is (I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately) only my best guess. The important thing is the ingredients though. You can play around with ...2) add th...

Lamb Ravioli with Roasted Yellow Pepper Sauce. Kitchen Monkey had his wisdom teeth out this past Friday, so it's all about soft foods for the next few days. No one likes getting a bit of tortilla chip stuck in their socket. Lamb Ravioli with Roasted Yellow Pepper Sauce. 2 lbs of ground lamb. 4 sprigs fresh rosemary, chopped (get rid of the stems, of course). 6 cloves garlic, minced. 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil. 1/2 lb. finely grated parmesan. Roasted Yellow Pepper Sauce. 2 Tbsp. olive oil. 4) Place th...
Kitchen Monkey: Gazpacho
http://kitchenmonkey.blogspot.com/2011/09/gazpacho.html
Now that summer is over and good tomatoes are getting harder to find, I'm finally getting around to posting my gazpacho recipe. It holds no claim to being particularly original or different, but several people who say they don't normally like gazpacho have praised it, and I certainly like it. The other thing to know about this recipe is that it's an approximation. Gazpacho is one of those things I tend to wing. But I've also written it so that you can add the base a little at a time to taste. 5) Add the ...

Kitchen Monkey Done Got Hitched! That's right folks: June 5, 2010. Any attempt in this blog to describe how meaningful and wonderful it all was would come up short. That said, allow me to set the scene. It was an intensely classy affair, with the ceremony and cocktail hour held on the rooftop of the Hay Adams Hotel. We couldn't have been happier with him- he was great to work with. The photos you see below are his. You'll not see better pics than this on Kitchen Monkey, ever. Posted by Kitchen Monkey.
Kitchen Monkey: SASOU Chef Competition - 2008/2009
http://kitchenmonkey.blogspot.com/2010/02/sasou-chef-competition-20082009.html
SASOU Chef Competition - 2008/2009. Apologies to Max Von Sydow). This was no ordinary cooking competition. Iron. Mere celebrity twaddle. Top. This, my friends, was S.A.S.O.U - "Super Awesome Supreme Overlord of the Universe" Chef. A delicious appetizer based on sweet potatoes, with beets and pistachios. The Prize: the winning team received a dinner at Nage, a great restaurant in D.C. (where our friend Glen Babcock happens to be the head chef), paid for by the other three teams. A delectable hazelnut cake.

Grappa Italian Cafe - Park City Utah. The Italian restaurant you see above. The best thing by far was the location. The staircase you see to the right side of the photo goes up the hillside about 100 yards, and our vacation home was at the top- so it was a short and convenient walk. They sat us on the white-canopied balcony, seen in the above photo on the third floor. Here is the view from the balcony:. Posted by Kitchen Monkey. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Bonjour, je suis. Je réalise des sites internet . Forest in mind EP.
