So some may know by now, but i was asked (more like forced) into being an ayame musume, a daughter of the irises. one of the only things that my town is famous for is the iris festival that it holds every June. there are supposed to be over 800,000 visitors to this sleepy little Japanese town throughout the month of June! I'm not completely convinced I believe those stats yet, but maybe I will be proved wrong. Monday, ...

Living among the rice paddies. Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Yum, nothing like comfort food (remixed). I made mashed potatoes in my rice cooker tonight! Anyone who knows me knows that one little bowl of mashed potatoes made my day! They make me so happy, ahhh comfort food. Incase anyone is so inclined to make rice cooker mashed potatoes:. I know a request was made as to what i eat, and what the grocery stores are like. and i promise that a post on that will be coming soon. i just haven't worked ...I hav...

Living among the rice paddies. Thursday, January 31, 2008. Lots of fat men! I’ve been putting this post off for the last few days (well I’ve been busy) but I wanted to put some pictures up about my past weekend. There was an Ibaraki JETs organized event to go and watch a sumo tournament in Tokyo. And I just have to say it was amazing to see it! Here is a diagram. A few pics of the arena. After sumo most of us ventured over to a restaurant where we enjoyed Chanko Nabe. the meal of all of the sumo wres...

Living among the rice paddies. Monday, April 21, 2008. It was nice and cozy in my apartment. Tea in my apartment when they first arrived. Sleeping on their futons. Their first weekend here was pretty low key, because they were fairly jet lagged and I had to be to work on Monday for graduation. Saturday they got the grand tour of my region, showing them a few stores, a few shrines and parks. On our way back we stopped at an all tofu restaurant. I thought it was delicious! You get everything in a bowl raw ...

Living among the rice paddies. Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Lots of little snowmen. Me in pain looking into the sun. Typical Japanese concession stands. The thing was amazing we actually really didn't realize how big it was before we went in. Some place the walls were probably about 20 feet high. Others were a lot lower, and I could totally cheat and see over them. View from the top of the maze (it had levels! Brita, Jay, myself, and Emma. Also meandered around the main snow sculpture area some more.

Sophia's Monde: April 2008

Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. I had been to Vienna once before, with Jess in February of 2006, so I can't say we did much sight-seeing in the two days I was there. We checked out a market which was great, walked a bit around the city, drank delicious Viennese coffee, and went out with her friends. Look what I found! Recap of Tübingen and Coucy-le-Chateau to come soon! Sunday, April 20, 2008. And finally, after all this time, I have a video of Magnus dancing:. It is also nearing...

Sunday, September 30, 2007. Living in France has certainly given me patience. During this weekend, I have managed to acquire a lamp for my room, as well as a basket for my mounds of asthma/allergy medications, and the heater in my room has started to cooperate! This was very exciting. Unfortunately, the stove and oven in our kitchen are still not cooperating. Neither is my internet, which is why I still have close to 200 pictures waiting on my camera to be posted for all my avid readers to see! Are appar...

Wednesday, October 24, 2007. Baguette eating on-the-go is really dangerous. Yesterday after class I stopped by a boulangerie to grab some bread for lunch and once I ripped off one hunk I lost control and ended up eating at least half of the thing. As soon as I had it in my hands I could tell it was all nice and warm from the oven and I couldn't help myself! Exercise was to check my heart rate. My first vacation period officially starts at 4:30 today! Tuesday, October 23, 2007. For example, while I am her.

Sunday, December 23, 2007. A Vegetarian Swiss Christmas. When I got off the train in Lausanne I hopped off with my suitcase and a couple nearby railroad workers chuckled and said. And Happy Birthday Celina! Tuesday, December 18, 2007. À bientôt, Steffi! Dancing at the party:. Afterwards, tired. well I was, anyway:. Sunday, May 4, 2008. April Vacation Part II. After my Eastern Europe extravaganza with Jess, I flew over to Stuttgart. I already wrote a bit about Tübingen, so in an effort not to be too redundant and not to waste any of my remaining time in this country (of which there is precious little- 4 days and counting), here are the rest of my pictures from the trip. Ellen and I before hitting the town (which means taking the bus to El Chico):. The original 4 at El Chico:. Sushi dinner in Reutlingen:.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Donghae, South Korea - July 2010. Donghae, South Korea – July 2010. Another USS John S. McCain port brought little me to a new location! I had traveled to South Korea last October. What an amazing country! When Josh told me they were going to be in port there I said I was in! It was an adventure from the beginning because the ship was not in Seoul. They docked at in a port in Donghae, South Korea. Ever heard of Donghae? I took the 2 hour flight to Seoul which was NO problem!
