Cogitations of Mr. Cockrum. Tuesday, August 7, 2012. My 20 Percent Project Revisions. Last year, I did a 20% project experiement with my 7th and 8th graders. I blogged about the start of it here. I've been spending the summer reflecting and discussing with other teachers Kate Petty (@techclassroom ), Amie Trahan (@amiet731), Cheryl Morris (@guster4lovers), and others, trying to decided how best to proceed. The issues I ran into last year:. L4: Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-mean...

http://www.jenniferward.org/2014/04/20-time-projects-resources-for-teachers.html
Tuesday, April 29, 2014. 20% Time Projects: Resources for Teachers. Image from Pecha Kucha. The basic premise of the 20% Time Project is that it is student-driven, passion-based learning. The idea gained traction as more people read Daniel Pink’s book Drive. In the book, Pink cites an idea that started with the 3M company and was expanded by Google. Google encourages its employees to spend one day each work week, 20 percent of their work time, focusing on their own projects. Why? Is likely the most compr...

Cogitations of Mr. Cockrum. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Using Google Docs and Explain Everything to do Video Writing Feedback on an iPad. I like doing video feedback for my students so they can not only see the suggestions I make, but also hear my suggestions. A goal of mine this year is to find a more efficient way to do this so I can give more feedback to each student. It will look like this:. In Explain Everything, I select the icon for new project and get the options below:. I choose "Import from pho...

EMINTS National Center – Inspired Teachers Inspired Students. All posts by hyattz. July 28, 2014. As the start of the school year rapidly approaches, one thing you might want to consider is planning for how your students will access online materials. In the past many of us have used our classroom website, blog, or wiki. Archive for May 2013. Follow my blog with Bloglovin. We had a guest helper today during our 20% Project.here are her observations. In first period, I helped Hunter. It was awesome to see that we could apply this project to any special needs kiddos. Instead of using any technology, we physically built an airship with popsicle sticks. I found just giving him a few guidelines were helpful in keeping him productive. I also showed him a few ways we could give airship more dimension. I guess this whole post is...

I Teach IT
Thursday, 7 February 2013. Computing at Key Stage 3. I've just had a read through the new National Curriculum framework. Which includes the new Computing program of study. I'm really interested to see how these changes are applied in schools, as there is a lot of tricky stuff there. I've had a look through the 'Subject Content' bullet points for computing at KS3 and made a few brief comments on the practicality of teaching each of those strands in a secondary school today.
