Brent is Angry: December 2012
http://www.brentisangry.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Rick Alverson's new film The Comedy. Exemplifies the traits of the best of indie cinema; it is contemplative, it is well shot, and most of all, it is challenging. And go to work as a dishwasher at a local diner. Was it another of his put-ons, or was it a genuine attempt to connect to people on some basic level? From what I've read, it seemed like more of the latter, and it gave this subplot of the film more resonance for me personally. So, although the movie deserves to stan...

Brent is Angry: June 2013

Monday, June 17, 2013. Summer Summer: Man of Steel, The Purge, Star Trek Darkness on the Edge of Town, and a digression on 1989's summer of water based movies. Summer = movies. Well, really, every season = movies for me, but there's something in my brain that is singularly satisfied by summer movie-going. It was a special time, one that I will never forget, and for which I'll always be grateful. I have vivid memories of seeing the big flicks of the time ( Return of the Jedi. Back to the Future. I remembe...

Thursday, January 24, 2013. Brent Saw Every Movie Pt.4 (The End? Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand! As you may have figured out by now, I have a soft spot in my heart for Arnold Schwarzenegger. While Arnold has never been what you would call a "good actor" (or in fact, what you might even call an "actor") he IS a major screen presence. What he lacks in emotional response and capable line readings, he makes up for with pure movie charisma. His presence in those films, as minor as it is, seems to have...

Brent is Angry: February 2015

Friday, February 20, 2015. Brent watches all of the 2015 Best Picture contenders, tells you why they don't matter, picks a winner anyway. When I was a kid, I loved the Oscars. I watched solemnly every year, and what's more, it mattered to me, damn it. To be sure, there are basic standards of competency by which any reasonable movie-goer can judge the qualities of a particular film. But to decide that one is better. Than all of the rest seems unfair. But do those movies last? 2013 – 12 Years a Slave.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Brent is Angry at Room 237, leaves an upper decker in the bathroom. As I consider myself to be a student of both Stanley Kubrick and the horror genre of films, The Shining. Stands as one of my favorite movies. Although it was largely unloved upon its original release, The Shining. So, imagine my eager anticipation when I first read about Room 237. A documentary about other fans of The Shining. I decided that we'd hold a movie night, where we'd watch The Shining. Is still The Shining.

Brent is Angry: August 2013

Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Summer is Over (even though it's 95 degrees outside today) and The World's End Wins. It's as good an excuse as any, I suppose. So how did we round out our summer? Having grown up a comic nerd in an era when being a comic nerd definitely wasn't cool, I never expected to live in a world where superhero movies not only just simply existed, but in fact represented the majority of mainstream films being produced. You have to understand, when I was a kid, there were the Superman.

Brent is Angry: November 2012
http://www.brentisangry.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 15, 2012. So, I've been sick. First a stomach bug, then my vertigo, then a hellacious head cold, the effects of which are still being felt throughout my body as well as the larger Stewart household. I am an old, old, sick, sick man. So this weekend, I found myself more or less confined to a couch. You would think that this would mean that I'd have ample opportunity to watch movie after movie, but instead I sort of floated in and out of a Nyquil/Dayquil coma, seeing very little. We are ...

Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Summer Superhero Kickoff: Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It took me forever to get around to watching The Amazing Spider-Man. So, I was surprised to find that The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, it’s not perfect. And I would have liked a lot more Paul Giamatti. But that being said, I laughed a lot more at this movie than the first one, I “woo! 8221;’d a lot more at this movie than the first one, and I was apparently emo...
