He wrote her a letter every day for the next year, trying to get his heart and soul out in words, in promises, in apologies. After that, Noah’s heart just seemed to close up. He still loved Seabrook in the summertime, and the soothing wisdom of Whitman, but he never let himself love another woman the way he loved her. He knew he never could.

Revenge; theatrical muse Application. It felt good, for about a second. Then I realized that even after that Fin wasn’t coming back. I’d never be able to give him a hard time, or go fishing with him, or walk down main street cutting up with him. He wasn’t coming home. Seabrook has never been the same. Neither have I. Revenge doesn’t even the score or wipe the slate clean. All revenge does is remind you of what you’ve lost and make you realize that you can’t get it back, no matter how much you hit back.
