A group of dedicated, successful and visionary local citizens formed a new non-profit foundation called the Lamorinda Film and Entertainment Foundation (LFEF). This non-profit local group has worked since 2004 to either purchase the theatre with donated funds or find an operator who would work closely with the community to keep the theatre in operation. Financial resources will be used to support the foundation’s mission. The foundation is seeking contributions that may be specifically earmarked for specific equipment acquisitions that will reduce ongoing expenses for non-profit organizations that wish to utilize the theater for civic and charitable events. History of the Orinda Theater. The theatre was initiated by local resident Donald Rheem, and was built on land he acquired in an area of town that was referred to as the Crossroads .
