Southern Gal Thoughts

Button, Button, Who's Got the Button? Friday, August 14, 2015. Hollis and The Acorn(s). A beautiful day, a baby boy on a blanket and too much temptation in the way of acorns. Hollis loves to put everything in his mouth. And all.the.things. Those are the piece de resistance! The tinier, the better. And the little stems make them even more delectable. The stem sometimes makes it harder to get in the mouth, but he can work that out. It just takes a little patience. And then Nona rakes it out of his mouth.

Button, Button, Who's Got the Button? Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The Journey of the Scrumptious Pinwheel Quilt. From an amateur quilter. This is a long post about my adventures of sewing my first quilt. (If you would like to skip ahead to the pictures I totally understand. ;) I did finish a small quilting project. In January of last year, but this is the first big quilt I've attempted. I want to remember the process I went through to create this quilt for my granddaughters. The last week in June. A recipe...

Southern Gal Thoughts: A Simple Quilt Made With Love

http://itwasbroughtonbylove.blogspot.com/2010/05/simple-quilt-made-with-love.html

Button, Button, Who's Got the Button? Friday, May 21, 2010. A Simple Quilt Made With Love. The quilt is beautiful, too. It was made by my grandmama. For her first great-grandchild, Rebekah. I washed it today and hung it up to dry outside on the swingset. As I looked closely at it I noticed something I had never seen before. This quilt is completely handstitched. Every little doll was lovingly stitched. Not just the obvious cross-stitches on the edges. Of the Sunbonnet Sue dolls,. A lifetime of memories.

Button, Button, Who's Got the Button? Monday, August 10, 2015. Lift up your eyes to the heavens,. And look at the earth beneath;. For the heavens vanish like smoke,. The earth will wear out like a garment,. And they who dwell in it will die in like manner;. But my salvation will be forever,. And my righteousness will never be dismayed. As I sat down to stare into this screen with its blinking cursor. Begin another Multitude Monday post,. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and just waited. Thankfully, R...

From this side of the viewfinder. Thoughts from the heart and mind of a Southern writer. Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Shooting star offers sign of hope, peace. I wrote this several years ago in my other life as one of my weekly Impatience of Jobe columns for the Daily Corinthian. While looking for a copy of another column I wrote, I stumbled upon it tonight and thought how timely it was for how I was feeling. So I opted to share it here and as a note on my Facebook page. Everything is really gonna be OK.

A bare, white. And the deepest, most. I used to wish I was an artist. And could draw things exactly. As I see them. But in a way I. For I write things. Exactly as I feel them. From this side of the viewfinder. Thoughts from the heart and mind of a Southern writer. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Reflections on 9/11/01 on 9/11/11. This was the Impatience of Jobe that I wrote for the first anniversary of 9/11. On TV, I saw a split screen view of smoke billowing out of one of the towers at the World Trade Center and smoke rising from the Pentagon. I recognized both structures immediately and, without knowing details, I knew that whatever happened was horrendous and affected us all.

From this side of the viewfinder. Thoughts from the heart and mind of a Southern writer. Friday, December 30, 2011. I wrote this sometime during my senior year at Mississippi University for Women. If I could I'd paint a rainbow. Every day up in the sky. To help to make you happy. Or comfort you when you cray. To remind you that you're not alone. And to let you know I care. On those rare and far-between times. When I just can't be there. But I'm not much of an artist. And rainbows just don't last.

From this side of the viewfinder. Thoughts from the heart and mind of a Southern writer. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. I have looked for you all of my life. In the faces of strangers. In the places I’ve wandered. In the things that brought me momentary joy. In the people who snatched my trust, shattered my heart. And crushed my spirit. Yet I continued to look. In my thoughts and plans, silly schemes. Memories, current moments, future dreams. Somewhere just beyond my reach,. Loneliness and bad decisions.

Many people in my life I can recognize purely by their voice. Although I’ve not heard my mama’s voice since December 13, 1992, I still remember how it sounds. That’s comforting at the times when I miss her most. I find it really funny when people call me on the phone and say, “Hey, it’s! 8221; Why do I find that funny?
