To the surprise and delight of birders and nature photographers, a rare bird, the Kirtland's Warbler, visited Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary in Chicago for two days in May. Below are a series of photographs taken during the 2015 spring season. The brilliant blue plumage of a singing Indigo Bunting. A Hooded Warbler explores the ground for insects. Birds At My House. Tuesday, 23 June 2015. It is now summer and time for a new look! With the bright sun and blooming flowers, as well as nesting birds, it is time for a brighter and warmer look! By the way, the colours will change according to the season. Friday, 19 June 2015. Here is my FoF post: Last week, we had a rather large participant at our feeder, eating the bugs out of the tall unmown grass around. It is a Common Raven, one of many in our area, that are regularly seen in swales or ditches.

A Breath of Nature: Bush Katydids
http://susanlovesnature.blogspot.com/2015/08/bush-katydids.html
Me and My Blog. Monday, August 10, 2015. While scanning the flower garden with my camera lens, I spotted something move on the Blue Salvia. I stepped in and zoomed closer. Through the lens I saw a couple itsy bitsy insects, one tinier than the other, with super long antennae. It was the antennae moving that had, seconds before then, caught my attention. Were these young grasshoppers? I found a couple interesting web sites about katydids- Bug Eric's blog (click here. Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

Amateur naturalists discuss the flora and fauna of the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. Tuesday, August 16, 2011. A Green Anole on Maui. He has a dewlap or throatfan under his chin that he would open up from time to time. It was bright red or orange in color and would stick out from under his neck by half an inch or so. He wouldn't do this when I had the camera on him, though. But, here is a picture of a gecko with his dewlap out. Some say they escaped from a pet store. Links to this post.

Burly Bird: For all the lady birds...
http://burlybird.blogspot.com/2012/07/for-all-lady-birds.html
Bird Stickers: www.burlybird.com. July 31, 2012. For all the lady birds. I've been getting really good looks at female birds lately. I think many of the drabber ladies get passed over or missed altogether because they're often secreted away on nests and not singing garishly from exposed perches like their testosterone-filled counterparts. A female PABU came in and we were fairly excited, but admittedly sort of let down that it wasn't a male in all his breeding plumage splendor. Egads. This female White-w...

Bird Stickers: www.burlybird.com. December 21, 2011. Florida AVICATION Part II: The Glades. Little Blue Heron, 3-16-11. We drove to Florida City after flying into Miami, and checked into the local Travelodge. This place was clean, comfy, and friendly - and after redeeming rewards points that I had accumulated, only cost us something like 15 bucks a night for three nights. Damn, it feels good to be a thrifty birder. We awoke the first morning ready to EXPERIENCE. 20 species later, we were nearing the Park...

Thursday, March 5, 2015. Birding and Photography Ethics. Great Horned Owl Nestlings. The park rangers were kind enough to put up an orange fence around this tree to keep people at a safe distance. If you follow the signs and barriers, you can be confident you're not causing harm. Black-Necked Stilt in Distraction Display. These kinds of displays are a good sign that you're close enough to a nest or young to cause stress. Best behavior is to give the bird more distance. Lark Sparrow with Bird Seed. So I t...
