Il fiume Ivindo scorre tra vaste distese di foresta primaria, creando una serie di rapide e di cascate (Kongou, Mingouli) uniche e spettacolari. La più grande concentrazione di gorilla del Gabon è stata scoperta nella radura di Langoué. Il Parco Nazionale dell'Ivindo (3000 km2) creato nel 2002, comprende la Riserva Naturale d'Ipassa, protetta dal 1971.
