Ivy League-West: Why?
http://ivyleaguewest.blogspot.com/2013/06/why.html
A gentle transition between home and school. Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Kids spend day after day asking why. Why is the sky blue? Why do birds fly? You know the drill. How often do we, as parents, ask why? What if as parents, we asked why as often as our curious children? What if the majority of the expectations, lessons, words etc. were prefaced with the question why? What if you asked yourself, what is the purpose of this word, this action? What is my goal? Ivy League-West: Better than Preschool
http://ivyleaguewest.blogspot.com/2013/02/better-than-preschool.html
A gentle transition between home and school. Monday, February 25, 2013. I concede that this is a lot more difficult to implement than preschool. You can force a child to go to school (but you cannot force him to learn! But you cannot force an adult to go to a class that will teach them life long skills, which is why we should be teaching this skill starting in middle school! Our future awaits and it's begging for something better. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Ivy League-West: March 2012
http://ivyleaguewest.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
A gentle transition between home and school. Saturday, March 24, 2012. A Coffee Gangster and A Child Change My World. Even though General Hospital wasn't really taking away the boredom, at least the adults on the screen were speaking in full sentence and that was definitely something! If it was real would I try to shield it from him? So I challenge you to take a moment, this moment to look at your child and try to see the world from their perspective, their view with their experience. What do you see?
Ivy League-West: December 2011
http://ivyleaguewest.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
A gentle transition between home and school. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. The excitement of the Christmas season is palpable in young children. Unfortunately, the stress of parents can also be palpable. This holiday season I invite you to sit back for a moment and consider the realities of the season and to make a leap of faith that this year it will be truly memorable and magical, the kind of Christmas that every child deserves. Let’s start with a simple Christmas task. Make a list and check it twice.

Switching Classrooms: Financial Friday: Broken Toys
http://raisingtyandza.blogspot.com/2013/08/financial-friday-broken-toys.html
Friday, August 9, 2013. Financial Friday: Broken Toys. Tearing up broken toys! I saw this on Pinterest months ago: giving your kids broken toys and a screwdriver. We had a garage sale a bit ago, and we cleaned out the house for old toys and nonworking. I tried putting new batteries in this ABC game, and nothing. I declared it toast, and gave it to Ty and Za to "fix." They were thrilled. Ty really thought he could fix it. He was very methodical in taking it apart, and separated the pieces. My son Ty (he i...
Switching Classrooms: Five 3-year-old Activities (for when you can't move)
http://raisingtyandza.blogspot.com/2012/10/ten-3-year-old-activities-for-when-you.html
Sunday, October 21, 2012. Five 3-year-old Activities (for when you can't move). I have been glued to a rocking chair this last month. I know that moms of more than one child know what I mean: I am limited with my play with Za. Baby C.J. requires lots of feeding, rocking, diaper changing, and repeating. That leaves me with a 3-year-old who needs attention. I would prefer she not. Spend all day in front of the television. 2 Paper and crayons. This seems simple, right? Za has a baby as well, which often doe...
Switching Classrooms: Educational Theory of the Week: Bloom's Taxonomy
http://raisingtyandza.blogspot.com/2010/04/educational-theory-of-week-blooms.html
Monday, April 5, 2010. Educational Theory of the Week: Bloom's Taxonomy. A new month, and a new educational theory in practice. As I suggested last week (or maybe more than a week ago), we'll look at Bloom's Taxonomy. And how it relates to our children's everyday learning. Why is this useful? Example scenario: Ty tying his shoes (which he loves to practice). 1 Knowledge: Ty knows what shoes are and that they need tied. 3 Application: Ty makes an 'X' (he is applying a letter to the situation of tying shoe...
Switching Classrooms: October 2013
http://raisingtyandza.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 31, 2013. What I Love About Communication Junction. For the past two months, baby C.J. and I attended the first Sign and Play class through Communication Junction. Official graduates (I have the certificate in the baby book! We developed together the best parts of the class in a handy top-five list. That's Abbey, with baby C.J. sucking her thumb in the back. 1 An educational setting. CJ and I don't get tons of one-on-one time, poor third child. She gets lots of mom time with the oth...
"Inside Out": Launching our spiritual dream boats a sail

Living Wisdom School of Seattle. Educating Young Students From The Inside Out. Educating Preschool students from the "Inside Out". Thursday, January 3, 2013. Launching our spiritual dream boats a sail. Below is the basic recipe of how we organized the day. I adapted this ritual from the book: "All Year Round by Christine Fyers-Clinton, Ann Drutt and Marge Rowling. Here is the process:. Large bath of water. Lower the lights as it is to be magical. Pretty crystals’ pebbles and shells. 4 large glass vases t...

"Inside Out": Merry Christmas
http://chandi-holliman.blogspot.com/2013/12/merry-christmas.html
Living Wisdom School of Seattle. Educating Young Students From The Inside Out. Educating Preschool students from the "Inside Out". Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Right now most of us are relaxing and reviewing the spiritual thoughts that Christmas brought to us this year. Yes, another year of rustling to this party or that, shopping, tuning into that best present for a friend, or just listening to your favorite musical Christmas piece. But that is the outward form of Christmas. View my complete profile.
"Inside Out": Spiritual quote for the week

Living Wisdom School of Seattle. Educating Young Students From The Inside Out. Educating Preschool students from the "Inside Out". Friday, November 15, 2013. Spiritual quote for the week. I came across this spiritual quote during the week, and I felt inspired to share with one of my photos. When one realizes God, he no longer feels that others are different from himself. Take this into your meditation for the weekend. Have a good weekend all. Blessings and Gratitude,. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Switching Classrooms: Thanksgiving
http://raisingtyandza.blogspot.com/2013/11/thanksgiving.html
Thursday, November 28, 2013. I started writing this almost a month ago. Every time I start to finish it, I can't. On Christmas Eve, I am going to finish it, no matter what. Today is Thanksgiving. I have appreciation for my family, health, and food every year. This year I am especially thankful for my home. People sort through debris for baby footprint cards, first-cut locks of hair, baptismal gowns, and first birthday party invitations. My neighbors who survived the tornado will need to talk about their ...

A gentle transition between home and school. Friday, June 28, 2013. A Case For Teachers. I recently came across this scathing letter from Congresswoman Liz Pike. To say that I was appalled and saddened does not even begin to cover the range of outrage this letter instilled. How is being a state representative a private sector job? She goes on to compare our education system with others (out there) in the world. This caused me to wonder exactly how familiar Ms. Pike is with global education pedago...Polit...
