About Walmer Township – Izizwe Projects

http://www.izizweprojects.co.za/township-life

Walmer Township remains one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Eastern Cape. Common issues in the township include unemployment, HIV/AIDS, alcohol abuse, child neglect, crime, and illiteracy. The home of about 70,000 residents, Walmer lacks sufficient resources to remedy these ailments; there are only two primary schools, one high school, and one clinic in the township. Costs – Izizwe Projects

As a non-profit organization, we unfortunately can not pay for your stay and we have to charge a fee to volunteer with us. These fees include;. These costs includes staff salaries (most of which were unemployed people from the township) who coordinate daily activities, payment of school kids sponsored by the project, monthly donations of groceries for creches, costs for the holiday programs, stationary supplies, school uniforms, etc. Food and transport costs. SPORTS PROGRAMME – Izizwe Projects

The children of this community have limited options to enjoy sports and with our local coach and support from international volunteers Izizwe strives to implement a full time sports program into the primary school and after school activities. The input of volunteers is needed to assist in further developing this program, to coach the children and to work together with the local coach to increase awareness, organize sports tournaments and participate in competitive matches.
