Jules in South Africa. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Newer posts →. May 20, 2009. Last Friday, we spent another full day at the clinic. With Samie’s help, we were able to bring 5 Univen students with us to help. We only had 1 Univen car though, so it meant piling 7 people into a little Toyota Corolla. I am getting pretty good at fitting in small spaces in cars! For some reason, I find Venda very difficult to pick up. My biggest regret is that I can’t speak directly to the patients! May 19, 2009.

But now I am used to sharing my room with lizards, cockroaches, mosquitos, etc. My room is really clean and very nice, but that’s just what happens here. I am used to seeing my giant cockroach friend, Stuffy, in the bathroom in the mornings, and I am fine with him as long as he stays away from my toothbrush. Closing time →.

Dr Guerrant told amazing stories while driving us off the road, missing turns, and forgetting his bright lights from time to time (both turning them off and turning them on). It was a little scary, but we made it there in one piece, and from the stories I heard in the car, it sounded like our drive was a breeze compared to their experiences in Brazil and Turkey, etc. Get every...

It was the first time I had gotten out of the Thohoyandou area since I arrived, excluding my trips to the clinic.
