Old Ways and New Days: May 2012
http://oldwaysandnewdays.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Old Ways and New Days. Thursday, May 24, 2012. Just a quick update on mulberry season and the progress we have made filling the freezer, making pies, eating frozen banana puree with cinnamon mulberry sauce, and having a really great time watching birds, getting stares from curious runners and pedal bikers, and foraging this wonderful, plentiful, nutritious, berry. This is so good it hurts. It is quite simple, three people, a rope with a heavy foot long stick tied to it, and a tarp. Cleaning the berries i...

Old Ways and New Days: Photo and Turkey Season Update
http://oldwaysandnewdays.blogspot.com/2013/05/photo-and-turkey-season-update.html
Old Ways and New Days. Monday, May 6, 2013. Photo and Turkey Season Update. Turkey season is upon us. It is my favorite time of year and becoming my favorite thing to hunt. I always hunt turkey with my father who understand their actions better than I do. He also keeps me in check from being too aggressive and he always knows what to say to curb my disappointments. 1 Call lightly and don't call a lot. People watch tv shows not realizing the hunt takes place over an hour or so and think they need to c...

Old Ways and New Days. Friday, July 27, 2012. Ah yes, the chanterelle. I picked my first one when I was 23. I stared at the yellowish-orange trumpet shaped mushroom with awe. I remember thinking, “you can eat this freaking thing? Sarah with an Umbrella Mushroom. I made a promise to myself to fill my freezer for winter. Chad rolling some dough. Chanterlle Ravioli w/sage butter, Delmonico Steak, Spicy Grilled Swiss Chard. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. My Garden is Doing Quite Well. Sarah and I at Beam's Rocks.

Old Ways and New Days: April 2013
http://oldwaysandnewdays.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Old Ways and New Days. Thursday, April 25, 2013. PA Rob's Trout Cakes. I myself cannot eat fish. I know it's a catch 22 especially seeing how much time I spend on the water and how passionate I am about fishing. Anywho, my friend PA Rob has been sending me these pictures of trout cakes and they look really good! I thought it would be a good idea to put the recipe up on this site for everyone to see. If you try it, let me know! From the Kitchen of PA Rob. 1/2 cup of mayo (I just eyeball it). Junking tomor...

Old Ways and New Days: Photo update for May
http://oldwaysandnewdays.blogspot.com/2013/05/photo-update-for-may.html
Old Ways and New Days. Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Photo update for May. Started to find the newt on the ground. Two years ago, my father shot a gobbler who had newts in its craw. My second bearded tooth. It is growing a piece of tree where a beaver was chewing. If you look close enough you can see the top right hand corner of the mushroom has been bitten. My favorite seat in the world. Looking down stream from the pond. Chad landed a few decent sized bass on this trip. Who wants to go fishing in a swamp?

Old Ways and New Days: December 2012
http://oldwaysandnewdays.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Old Ways and New Days. Wednesday, December 12, 2012. There were times where I heard nothing but the utter silence of my own content. I sat and stared at the mountainous hillside, the small stream cut through and divided a wooded draw that has taken thousands of years to erode, form, and become a perfect highway for whitetail deer to use. And it is perfect aside from the logging remnants and gas wells. I often think of this place while I am sitting at my desk. The Draw I Hunt. That doesn’t mean the ...
