In order to provide explicit, targeted reading interventions, I first need to know their exact area of need. Using screening measures is not enough. Screening measures need to be used as a starting point. From there, more specific assessments need to be administered to determine where on the cognitive model a break down is occurring. Matching students to appropriate text is incredibly important. In order to counteract the Matthew Effect, it is important for me to be knowledgeable of children's literature.
