Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. My new way to do Saturdays. August 2, 2015. The farmer’s market starts at 11 and it seems like half the town comes out to scoop up the freshest, nicest produce I’ve ever seen. The midnight sun helps grow some beautiful vegetables way up here. We spent about $40 and stocked up on carrots, broccoli, roma tomatoes, big sandwich size tomatos, cauliflower, cucumber, zucchini, kale, and lettuce. Then I went panning for gold? Only my fears about my rubber boot...

Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. July 29, 2015. Up above the town, there is the “Midnight Dome” outlook that you can drive up to (or hike if you’re ridiculously fit) and look off in all directions. Look at how gorgeous the Yukon Territory is! The population density of the Yukon is just 0.1 people per square kilometre. Monty and Jeff and Dawson City. For some silly reason, last year when we visited here, I didn’t go to the very top to sit on the bench. But consider it conquered now 🙂.

Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. Exploring the gold field roads south of Dawson City. July 17, 2016. We didn’t have any weekend plans, so yesterday we spontaneously decided to take a drive out through the gold fields – back on Bonanza, Quartz Creek, Sulphur, Eureka, Dominion, and Hunker Roads. Fireweed, Yukon’s flower. People say you can tell how many weeks of summer are left by how many flowers have yet to bloom at the top of the stalk. Swimming hole with an old crane and line to swin...

Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. December 26, 2015. I just realized I haven’t been home to see our families for Christmas since 2006. I could almost count the year 2007, when we went home to get married, but on Christmas Day we were half way back to Nova Scotia (and stranded in Quebec with a broken truck. On the day before Christmas, I got started on my baking. I made some incredible soft gingerbread cookies from a recipe. They are super easy. I’m pretty sure I’ve made pie ...It tastes...

Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. Adventures with Dad: Tombstone, Northern Lights, Beer, and Shelves. August 31, 2015. Dad, Jeff, and I went up to Tombstone. About 10 days ago. Jeff went fishing, Dad and I went sightseeing. It was a cloudy day, which meant it was a miserable day for fall photography. However Tombstone is gorgeous even without the sun on its fall colours. Here are some untouched photos from Tombstone Territorial Park:. Dawson City from the Midnight Dome, after midnight.

Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. December 19, 2015. This week I turned the big 4-0. I usually take my birthday off, but despite living in the most unique place on the planet, I couldn’t think of a single “epic” thing to do with the day, so I worked. Jeff made me a delicious cake. Golden cake with chocolate icing, topped with Smarties! Then we bundled up and went out to celebrate! It helps having a relative living here who knows these things. Jeff’s birthday cupcakes. Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. It is still snowing! March 19, 2015. March 21, 2015. Our neighbour Buddy came by with his tractor this morning to plow us out so Jeff could get to work. I just went outside to try to fill the bird feeders for the hungry birds. Unfortunately the bird seed is in the back of my very buried car so I had to shovel my way into the hatchback with my arms to move enough snow to open the car to get the bird seed. Lisa Schuyler's Blog. My blog, my journal, my life. Our drive across Canada. August 4, 2015. August 4, 2015. Back tracking a couple weeks to make sure I share some photos of our relocation trip across Canada in July. I thought I would have been able to blog every night on the road, but I was totally over estimating my night time energy level. Most days I only managed to get a quick Facebook update published. We did it in 10 days, 8294 km! Here’s a recap:. Truck is packed, we’re ready to go! My Mom, Dad, ...
