Jake in Madrid

I left Madrid last Saturday. Saying goodbye was much harder than I thought it was going to be, and now every once and a while I feel like somethings missing. At least I'm having a lot of fun here in Lisbon with Rita and her family, and it's the perfect distraction. We went downtown for the first time yesterday, so here are some of the pictures. 06 July 2011 / / 3 comments. I had so much fun, and it was so worth it. Plus I met a lot of new people, and made a lot more friends. 28 June 2011 / / 1 comments.

Jake in Madrid: June 2011

http://jakeinmadrid.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Two weeks ago I got the chance to spend a week in Prague and Budapest with about 50 other kids from my school as a end of the year trip. I had so much fun, and it was so worth it. Plus I met a lot of new people, and made a lot more friends. Here are some of my pictures from the trip:. Fun fact: I only learned 2 words during the whole week. One word in Hungarian, and one word in Czech. In Hungarian I learned "utca" which means "street" and I only learned it because it was on every single street sign.

Jake in Madrid: #SpanishRevolution

http://jakeinmadrid.blogspot.com/2011/06/spanishrevolution.html

This is the Puerta del Sol. It's the center of Madrid, and essentially the center of Spain. On a normal day, it's packed with tourists taking in the sights, street performers, and a handful of people dressed up as Mickey Mouse or Spongebob selling balloons and getting money for pictures. But not recently, and not right now. For the last few weeks, Sol has been overtaken by Spaniards, unhappy with the economic situation, the unemployment rate, the government, and the outlook of their futures. In almost al...

Jake in Madrid: November 2010

http://jakeinmadrid.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

First things first. I did not get the highest score on our English exam that we just got back the results of today. But I wasn't expecting to. Just beacuse I speak/write/read/understand English perfectly doesn't mean I know what the verb "to swim" is in the pluperfect tense. Nor the future progressive, past conditional, imperative, or any other tense. I still got the second highest score though, and my grade was basically perfect, so I don't really care about it. We missed the bus! The other things that ...

AFS: Amistades Forjadas para Siempre. Before I came here, I had heard that the best friend you make on a foreign exchange aren't actually the friends from your host country, in my case the Spanish kids I've befriended, but rather the other kids from around the world that are studying abroad in the same program and country. These past two weeks have really made me think that that's true. What did we come up with? Harry Potter names. Left to right in the picture is supposed to be Snape, Draco, Voldemor...

8220;People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home.” – Dagobert D. Runes. Thursday, November 17, 2011. Sí, aquí estoy. Yes, here I am. I probably lead most readers to the conclusion that I have stopped writing my blog, which is quite far from what I plan to do. I thought I should get atleast one post before November comes to an end. And with November ending, do you know what that means? Off topic, I know. NOVEMBER. If I had any regrets, it was probab...

8220;People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home.” – Dagobert D. Runes. Saturday, December 22, 2012. It's not writer's block. All the ideas are here. It's not a lack of interest. I'd throw everything away if that were the case. It's not that things are changing. My intent it still to have an active blog. 8220;People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home.” – Dagobert D. Runes. Thursday, July 12, 2012. It's been awhile. I can explain. The last time I wrote a blog post I was sitting at a table in Milan, in a bit of shock that I was finally back in the great EU. Since then a lot has happened, and I feel no need to justify why I haven't posted any updates. I've been on the go, like you wouldn't believe. I thought that Milan was a typical place for the pope t...

Another long delay, maybe sometime I'll get back into the swing of writing more regularly. I seem to have quite a collection of rough drafts though, it's just that I never seem to find a way to make the post flow or close whatever point I was trying to make or whatnot. Not that all of my posts flow or really make much sense but. The following Tuesday afte...

It's officially been my longest non-blog-writing streak, but I've decided to make some changes to help this. JakeInMusic | Jake Laughlin's thoughts about the music business

Jake Laughlin's thoughts about the music business. May 3, 2012. It happens to all of us. We have passion that we want to bring to light, but somewhere between beginning and end we get discouraged. We get so much on our plate and we feel as though we are working harder than everybody else, and if we could just get a break then we would be able to get to that next level. However, when we take that break we often never come back; whether we physically leave for good or (more commonly) mentally check-out.
