Jake's Take: I am MacGyver

http://jakepoinier.blogspot.com/2010/09/i-am-macgyver.html

Musings on freelance writing, entrepreneurship and the creative process. Friday, September 17, 2010. No, I'm not talking about the mullet I wore back in the late 1980s. I'm talking about the fact that, as a freelance writer, there are going to be times when you're given a piece of dental floss, a stick of gum, and a Bic lighter, and you're expected to create. A brochure or ad campaign or website out of it. Day two, he sends me a follow-up email to find out how it's going. And the other reality is, it's k...

Jake's Take: January 2011

http://jakepoinier.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Musings on freelance writing, entrepreneurship and the creative process. Thursday, January 27, 2011. Suckerpunched (or Why Friends and Family Make Lousy Clients). Dante's circle for unscrupulous businessmen. Tim Berry at Planning Startups Stories. Wrote a nice post earlier this week titled "Tip: Mistakes are more fun than tips.". In that spirit, allow me to share a doozy of a stupid that I committed a few months ago that finally imploded yesterday. At this point she wanted to know exactly how much her ta...

Go with a smile: January 2011

http://smilingonthego.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Go with a smile. Life is worth ranting for. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. One ocean - one love: Surfing Orcas. Every once in a while amidst stories of rape, famine, war, economic crises, and the general malaise that is spewed forth from your local news network, there are positive stories to help remind you that life isn’t all about bad news. So what does this have to do with anything? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Is there anybody out there? How to pimp a book before it is published.

Go with a smile: January 2013

http://smilingonthego.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Go with a smile. Life is worth ranting for. Saturday, January 26, 2013. In search of inspiration. Inspiration can be a fickle bitch, it can also be the best companion that you’ve ever known… that’s because inspiration breathes and lives. It has emotions, it has feelings, emotions, hang-ups and frustrations. I’m writing this so she knows how much I appreciate her because thanks to the philosophy we both share, we enjoy life and pay attention to the details and the big picture. We grow together, ...So here...

Noelle: Always Write: November 2009

http://alwayswrite-noelle.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 29, 2009. I don't care how good your physique is, guys, do not ever don a G-string. Mmmmkay? Last night three girlfriends and I saw Thunder from Down Under, a traveling version of the Vegas male review show. Think Chippendales with Aussie accents - a bunch of shaved, muscular white guys gyrating to hip hop, country, hard rock and ballads. They did the best they could with a lot of horribly choreographed moves - Point to the sky! Point to the ground! Slide on your knees! As my mind wander...

Noelle: Always Write: January 2010

http://alwayswrite-noelle.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 21, 2010. The problem with signs. I was giving a building tour to the new intern at work this week, and I pointed to a sign in the hall that reads, "Area of Rescue Assistance.". Those are the stairs," I told her. "I worked here for about six months and wondered where the stairs are and what an 'area of rescue assistance' is.". Call it a blond moment. The problem with signs is that while we get caught up in the legality and officiality of the notice, we lose the message. I really thought...

Noelle: Always Write: June 2010

http://alwayswrite-noelle.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 28, 2010. You shouldn't be doing that. You're FORTY! I find myself surrounded by people who are either going through a break-up or going through a divorce. Maybe it's a heightened awareness, as I have just gone through my own break-up. We go through times in our lives when we are going to weddings every weekend, then baby showers, graduations, funerals. Guess it's my season of the break-up. Why would you put yourself through that again? Because I believe in love," I tell him. And I expla...

Noelle: Always Write: March 2010

http://alwayswrite-noelle.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 27, 2010. Kenmore is the part of Akron where I grew up. The people who lived there were working class, blue-collar types who toiled at Goodyear, Firestone, General Tire or Goodrich, or they worked for a tire-related business. No one was wealthy in Kenmore; those people lived in west Akron and, most likely, supervised our parents. Most of our parents both worked, and as we got older, more and more of them divorced. Links to this post. Friday, March 26, 2010. You CAN'T talk about THAT.

Noelle: Always Write: May 2010

http://alwayswrite-noelle.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Last week, I toured a printing facility, which is one of the best in the Phoenix area, if not the state. The firm does high-end printing at nearly photographic quality, using some amazing technology (which I won't bore you with). It prints Arizona Highways. Magazine, which is known for its breathtaking photography. That's a lot of scrap," someone said. It all gets recycled," our tour guide replied. The post-game waste didn't bother me as much as the post-press waste. "We Recy...

Go with a smile: I wrote a book and it's called Only Human

http://smilingonthego.blogspot.com/2013/05/i-wrote-book-and-its-called-only-human.html

Go with a smile. Life is worth ranting for. Thursday, May 16, 2013. I wrote a book and it's called Only Human. In a small blur of a moment, I went from working on my book to having it out there. And sure I expect skepticism because who is anyone to judge their own work as worthy of publishing. It’s digital so there won’t be a book signing. for now. But it’s mine. it’s alive, it’s out there and it’s called Only Human. Check it out on Amazon clicking this link:. June 14, 2013 at 4:58 AM. I started this blo...

A travel blog you are bound to love. A Walking Tour of Dublin. The Old Bridge - Dublin, Ireland. In my opinion, the best way to explore a new region is by pounding the pavement! By walking along the many side streets and pathways of a vast city, you can discover all of the nooks and crannies that you would otherwise overlook when you zoom past in a car or abroad a packed tour bus. I cannot wait for my little girl to be here! Dublin street with beautiful moss homes. The Dubliners' (well, when in Rome!

Ideas Need an Outlet Eggs Need an Omlette. June 11, 2017. Penny Lane there is a barber showing photographs. Of every head he’s had the pleasure to know. And all the people that come and go stop to say Hello. On the corner is a banker with a motor car. The little children laugh at him behind his back. And the banker never wears a mack in the pouring rain. Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes. There beneath the blue suburban skies. I sit and meanwhile back. And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen.
