Pen in my Hand: July 2012
http://jakespen.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 30, 2012. All of life is darkness, was darkness, will continue to be darkness. The black of night is all you know, and for all you could care, the black of night is all that will ever be. It is all darkness. Though you have eyes, you see not, for there is nothing to see. You stumble in the darkness and hide your deeds. Gently, softly, the light calls your name again. It speaks with as commanding as thunder and as gentle as the caress of a salty wave: "Will you follow? For to obey the word of...
Pen in my Hand: [Poeticisms] Part III
http://jakespen.blogspot.com/2011/11/poeticisms-part-iii.html
Friday, November 11, 2011. It's that time again. I've written some poems, so why not share them? Be warned.they're crazy. And it should be fairly obvious to you what inspired the first poem. ;). Cross the fields of Rohan, a cry can be heard. Repeating, repeating, the same constant word. Calling out, shouting out, words numbered six. Jumbled into a catchy, chaotic mix. The words repeat, the listener chuckles. Turns it up 'til the whole room buckles. The song plays, like a parody-stricken bard. Told this b...
Pen in my Hand: The Adventure of the Ordinary
http://jakespen.blogspot.com/2012/06/adventure-of-ordinary.html
Saturday, June 16, 2012. The Adventure of the Ordinary. I love the Narnia movies. They're awesome, and I really hope that they come out with more. The depth of meaning found in them, despite secular production, is fantastic. G K Chesterton says this on the subject:. Oddities do not strike odd people. This is why ordinary people have a much more exciting time; while odd people are always complaining of the dulness of life. This is also why the new novels die so quickly, and why the old fairy tales endure ...
Pen in my Hand: A Doctor Who Trailer
http://jakespen.blogspot.com/2011/09/doctor-who-trailer.html
Friday, September 16, 2011. A Doctor Who Trailer. Won't be a long post, folks, just wanted to share a Doctor Who trailer with you. It's one of the best I've seen, and definitely covers it pretty well. It shows clips from the old Doctor Who (60s-80s) as well as the new Doctor Who seasons. Watch it. It's epic. And a little clarification: I'm not gone yet. I'll post before we actually head to Africa. :). OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS AMAZING. September 16, 2011 at 11:25 PM. September 23, 2011 at 1:52 PM.
Pen in my Hand: February 2012
http://jakespen.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 9, 2012. However, yesterday my computer died, and it didn't recover the untitled document. All that remained was a long poem that I had written after the post was finished. Basically, the poem below is my post, in less words and a rhyme-and-meter. The post was perhaps a little too fiery to put on here, anyway. Ahem* In other words, enjoy the poem, and let me know what you think. Drive this into our minds! Beside Your holiness, we are but dust! Reclaim us for Your purpose, Lord. Shall s...

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: Travels of 2014: Kurdistan, Part 3
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2015/01/travels-of-2014-kurdistan-part-3.html
Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Travels of 2014: Kurdistan, Part 3. November - Iraq: Day Two. Ons too. I'd never made a balloon animal in my life, but there was no way I could say no. In Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, in a church housing refugees, and I'm holding a brightly colored pump about to make an inflated animal out of a green balloon. I had many an incredulous private laugh. These words, a few of them know. He wants an elephant.". And he wants a bicycle.". Let's just say I did my best. THIS IS SO FABULOUS! WHY D...

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: Faith Strings
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2014/09/faith-strings.html
Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The rest of the time I spend playing would be a waste if I did not. Because of temperature and moisture changes in the air, the wood of my instruments expands or shrinks a little bit depending on the environment. I'd have to stop breathing and keep away from anyone else who did to keep my violin from doing this. With every slight expansion or shrinking, the strings are pulled out of their correct tuning, and it is my job to re-right them. What would happen if I didn't?

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: letting the Lord speak, second guessing, and animated movies because what post would be complete without them.
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2013/12/letting-lord-speak-second-guessing-and.html
Friday, December 6, 2013. Letting the Lord speak, second guessing, and animated movies because what post would be complete without them. Where did we leave me last? Frustrated with art in Michigan, I think. I've been pretty darn frustrated with everything. See, I got a big enough glimpse at the secular world, and suddenly I see art, self-expression, in a new light: selfish. vain. meaningless. I've hated it. Hated the pursuit of it. Hated the fact that it's such a part of me. You may or may not cry. She t...

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: A Long Overdue Hornblower Appreciation Post
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2013/11/a-long-overdue-hornblower-appreciation.html
Tuesday, November 12, 2013. A Long Overdue Hornblower Appreciation Post. I have been waiting to make this post for years. And the time has finally come. I was foolishly procrastinating on some homework and decided to scour the internet for Hornblower, well, everything. I hold all of them- books and episodes- very close to my heart. The time has now come for me to share this beauty with you. My internet scouring mainly resulted in photosets and a few amusing posts/cartoons. This is not. This appreciation ...

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: Back To Screenwriting
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2014/04/back-to-screenwriting.html
Monday, April 7, 2014. Five years is too long to go without making a movie. So, this summer, Lord willing, I'm going to throw together my first real short. It's an adaptation of a work of fiction by a beloved author: G. K. Chesterton. And I can't try to sound serious and professional anymore I'm eating tater tots as I type this for crying out loud. Ok so I adapted the first chapter of The Man Who Was Thursday by good old G. K. into a short film set in the present time. Ok here's a preview. AGH NOW IM ALL...

Castles, Quills, and Cameras: Travels of 2014: Kurdistan, Pt. 1
http://castlesquillsandcameras.blogspot.com/2015/01/travels-of-2014-kurdistan-pt-1.html
Saturday, January 3, 2015. Travels of 2014: Kurdistan, Pt. 1. Dang, this year ended with a blast. During the last two months I've made two trips, my first international and my first alone. They were both amazing and so, so special in their own ways. So to conclude 2014, I'm starting a journal-like narrative of my recent travels: a testament to how good God is, and this splendid world He has created. November - Iraq: Day One. Which was a suitable choice considering the common theme of different cultures.

Pen in my Hand
Monday, February 4, 2013. Concerning a Blog Closing. Well, folks, it's been a long time since I've blogged on here, and because of this, changes are being made. Running Teenage Writer is work enough, and I feel that the many uses of this blog - such as poetry, randomness, and just plain craziness - have changed, as I have changed. As a result, I've decided to close down Pen in my Hand. It'll always be open for re-reading, but my active blogging will continue on Teenage Writer. The Flow'st Upon a Midnight?

Outbox
Incrementing version/build numbers for Ionic. Uncarbonated Software has been experimenting with using Iconic for a project in order to have a cross-platform iOS/Android app. One of the things that drove me crazy was that when I would build the iOS project it would always set the version and bundle number in Xcode to 0.0.1. I looked into it and eventually found that you needed to edit the following line, found in config.xml. To have the version number you wanted carried forward to the iOS project. To get ...
