Hoe de Britten ook beweren dat een wolkje melk in de thee het summum is van beschaving, zonder melk is het goedje gewoonweg ondrinkbaar! En verschrikkelijk, maar waar, ik begin het nog lekker te vinden ook. En zo, al spuwend en thee met melk drinkend drinkend, raak ik steeds meer geïntegreerd in het leven in Schotland. Úkh, een Caucasustaal, maakt bijvoorbeeld gebruik van een fonologisch spectrum met maar liefst 112 consonanten en slechts 2 vocalen! En wist je dat vogels niets anders zeggen dan "Dit takje is van mij! Kom je met me paren? Of dat een pasgeboren baby de hoogte van zijn gehuil aanpast aan de stemhoogte van zijn moeder? Gebleven. De uitspraak is alleen onbegrijpelijk. A: Aye aw oo. B: Aw e ae oo?
