The James Barney Foundation is a Christian relief and development organisation that was established in the memory of James Barney after a tragic accident in February 2008. James Anthony Barney was born on the 7th of October 1991 and died on the 23rd of February 2008, aged 16. He is dearly missed but far from forgotten. We had been briefed at our 5 o’clock dinner that night that we were leaving for our summit attempt at 10:30 pm sharp. This was for two reasons. First, as we ascend the mountain, the rocky skree that litters the steep trail to the peak will be frozen and less likely to give way under our boots. On the 11th of December 2011 there was a 20 mile group bike ride from Nottingham Forest Football Ground, across the Midlands to Derby County Football Club. It was a tired and bedragled group that arrived at the Derby County Football Club, but one that was full of pride. Every member of the group successfully completed the entire ride and even managed a smile as they crossed the line. Please see the press article in relation to this event here.

On the evening of the 17th of October, James Barney Foundation supported the Princes' Trust in their East of England Celebrate Success Event. The evening recognised the achievements of young people supported by the Princes' Trust and the vital leadership and development role of those who support or work directly alongside these young people. Congratulations to both Samantha and the other two finalists, Daniel Farrant and Jermaine Malcolm, whose stories were all truely inspirational.
