Mindset: Making the Most of Observations – James Egerton

https://jamesegerton.wordpress.com/2016/12/11/mindset-making-the-most-of-observations

Mindset: Making the Most of Observations. I want to improve my teaching practices. Most teachers will say this, or why do we bother doing this job? To quote Jay-Z, loiterers should be arrested . If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. Stagnation is a slow death. And an article that appears in the current issue of IATEFL. Someone with a growth mindset. In contrast, someone with a fixed mindset. So how does this apply to pre-observation prep? Chris Ożóg, writing in the IH Journal, neatly synthe...

New, New, New! – James Egerton

https://jamesegerton.wordpress.com/2016/09/24/new-new-new

New, New, New! ONE of the great things about being a teacher of English as a foreign language is the opportunity to work all over the world. But time spent at the school is only a tiny portion of the acclimatisation process. So after a fortnight here in Riga, Latvia, here’s how I’m getting on with the avalanche of new : new job, new language, new city, with a few general tips for teachers. At the end of each section. Feel free to comment with any other ideas! Trust your teaching skills. In any case, when...

Lessons from a Spin Class – James Egerton

https://jamesegerton.wordpress.com/2016/10/30/lessons-from-a-spin-class

Lessons from a Spin Class. The first gym I joined in Riga wasn’t great; I left after a month. Despite being instructed in English, the first spin cycling class I attended was particularly bad, and it put me off going back. 8211; The instructor. Ate up 20 minutes of the hour-long session giving a detailed explanation. It was the end of a long day at work; did he think we were taking it in, or maybe it was just an ego boost? 8211; When we did finally start pedalling, the instructor. 8211; The instructor.

Haikus: Learning English – James Egerton

https://jamesegerton.wordpress.com/2016/11/04/students-haikus-on-learning-english

Haikus, which originated in Japan, are 17-syllable poems: 5 in the first line, 7 in the second, 5 in the third. So they don’t take long and work on learners’ awareness of pronunciation. Enough from me; these are what my C2 teenagers came up with…. English seven years ago. I very leik trains. The English and I. Seeing truth with my own lies. Under the full moon. I feel very nice. That learning English makes me. Go here even twice 🙂. Learning it is fun. Cos I can see two meanings. Are often reluctant to.
