The tech job market in Columbus seems to be picking up quite a bit. This is a wonderful thing for a lot of people since we like to be able to pay rent and buy sandwiches. These people are not really recruiters. They’re parasites. Real recruiters are a completely different creature. Don’t tell me that you have ...

Code Poet, Swordsman, Eternal Wanderer. Please feel free to comment. Email: james AT jameshollingshead DOT com. Sunday, December 30, 2012. It’s generally really easy for me to keep going if I’ve already got a bit of momentum, but if things have derailed me and caused me to focus elsewhere,. 8217;s First Law decides that it also applies to motivation and proceeds to kick my backside. Translation – if I stop, it takes real work to get going again. Less stuff, less to be overwhelmed by. I write the name of ...

First off, I apologize for the radio silence. It's been kind of crazy (for varying reasons) and I haven't devoted a lot of time to writing for a while. I plan to change that (or at least attempt to) going forward. It was odd writing C code after 10 years away from the language for the first project and really cool to be able to have...

Photographer, artist, writer, musician, nature lover, and loyal servant to one very spoiled cat. Saturday, June 13, 2015. Not much to report, so instead have a pair of videos I've taken over the past several weeks to fill in as your kitty update. First, of course, we have Anubis. As you can see he is doing fairly well on his meds. He still has his bad days, but for the most part he seems to be happy. Friday, June 12, 2015. So of course, I've been taking a bit of a trip down memory lane. Me, Myself, and I.

Photographer, artist, writer, musician, nature lover, and loyal servant to one very spoiled cat. Thursday, May 01, 2014. You life was too short, baby. In spite of all attempts at treatment, it seems the URI won. All the cats had it this winter, it was a bad one. The cats and kittens were all on antibiotics, had ointment for their eyes, and had started to regain their appetites for a little while, but then they took a turn for the worse again. None of the kittens made it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Photographer, artist, writer, musician, nature lover, and loyal servant to one very spoiled cat. Friday, October 25, 2013. More fun with fiction - this time one written for a friend. Her humans had been gone for an unusually long time. Fall had thought it strange when there were bags and soft boxes she wasn't allowed to lie in being filled with clothes. But the humans had left the house just like normal, at the usual time of day, with the usual good-bye and assurance that they would return. She watched a...

I've recently started learning how to write apps for the Android platform and, since the company I work for does all of our development in a Test Driven (TDD) fashion, I'm writing my first app using the same methodologies. Code Poet, Swordsman, Eternal Wanderer. Please feel free to comment. Email: james AT jameshollingshead DOT com. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. TDD Saves Me From Myself. I’ve gotten into TDD at least a bit over the last few months. It has a learning curve, but I’m finding that it sometimes saves me from myself (and saves me time in debugging). Part of my problem, like a lot of people, is that I sometimes over think things or fail to see something as being multi-purpose. A perfect example was a code kata.
