James Killick's Blog: Why writing blogs are boring
http://jameskillick.blogspot.com/2012/09/why-writing-blogs-are-boring.html
Thoughts from writing's front line. Monday, 24 September 2012. Why writing blogs are boring. I've noticed how it works. I've started doing it myself. Take something you think you know about, or something you might have just learned; or something you'd like to know about - or something you know absolutely nothing about - and act like you’re the world's authority. You want to be the part, act the part. You can guarantee that at least they'll read these just to see if you offer anything like what you've sug...
James Killick's Blog: A letter to the playwrights of England
http://jameskillick.blogspot.com/2012/07/letter-to-playwrights-of-england.html
Thoughts from writing's front line. Wednesday, 4 July 2012. A letter to the playwrights of England. Let’s talk about drama. Remember that? A term that comes from a Greek word meaning ‘action’ which is derived from ‘to act’. And that’s it. The key to all great plays - if you want drama you must have action. It's the only secret you’ll ever need. So if drama requires action, what is it? What does it mean for those affected by it? What are the emotional consequences of that action? Drama is not pretty words...
James Killick's Blog: Five Ways to an Atrocious Blog Post
http://jameskillick.blogspot.com/2010/06/five-ways-to-atrocious-blog-post.html
Thoughts from writing's front line. Monday, 21 June 2010. Five Ways to an Atrocious Blog Post. With everybody blogging these days you really need to stand out from the crowd. You're probably sick to death of blogs telling you how to write a great blog-post, so here's one telling you how to write an appalling one. Don’t deliver on the promise of the headline. Make the post as long as possible. Include an image that is completely unrelated to the post. The web is a visual medium right? Quelle surprise - ze...
James Killick's Blog: How to write for role-playing games
http://jameskillick.blogspot.com/2013/01/how-to-write-for-role-playing-games.html
Thoughts from writing's front line. Tuesday, 22 January 2013. How to write for role-playing games. It didn't take long for the video game industry to cotton-on to the fact that the key to a great game is a great narrative. Sure, gameplay and cool characters are key, but as any creative writer will tell you, if you want to keep someone hooked to the bitter end it's your narrative that will do it. The wrong way to do it is insist that the players run pre-generated characters and rail-road them through a fi...
James Killick's Blog: Five reasons why blogging makes you a better writer
http://jameskillick.blogspot.com/2011/07/5-reasons-why-blogging-makes-you-better.html?spref=bl
Thoughts from writing's front line. Tuesday, 5 July 2011. Five reasons why blogging makes you a better writer. Apparently there's only one reason to write a blog – to build a 'platform', which you can then convert to customers to buy your 'product'. Aside from the fact that anyone who thinks of their potential readership in those terms doesn't deserve anyone's time or money, thinking of your blog in terms of 'platform' is a little like obsessing about how to get published before you've learned to write.

The Fiction Hole - Blending life with fiction: November 2011
http://www.thefictionhole.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
The Fiction Hole - Blending life with fiction. A blog from a writer. I write about life, magic, unreality and thoughts that meander through my brain while I am supposed to be paying attention to my corporate job. Tuesday, November 22, 2011. I have not posted anything from my childhood for several days. My last two posts were not at all in line with my normal stuff so I can only ask for forgiveness. Let's see if I can redeem myself. You see, it WAS a Holiday for everybody else so we couldn't fire the larg...
Guardian Cats: Character building tools for writers | Astrological signs
http://guardiancats.blogspot.com/2011/04/character-building-tools-for-writers.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. Character building tools for writers Astrological signs. How do you create a character out of thin air? Whether it's a Protagonist, Antagonist or sidekick, here's a method I've used for putting some 'meat on the bones' of my characters. I'll be reviewing two awesome tools, both astrological sites. Aries is a uniquely naive sign. Although they are independent, outgoing and assertive they are also surprisingly trusting, often innocently walking into the lion's den at times....

Daily Writing Coach: April 2013
http://dailywritingcoach.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
On becoming a disciplined writer. . . with the occasional recipe. A Daily Writing Practice. Four Anchors For Beginning Writers. Monday, April 29, 2013. You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Recently, as I've posted, I ventured onto Kindle. I have published in the past, but always with the acknowledgement of a publisher or magazine editor. Kindle requires that you draw upon your own confidence, often lacking in writers, and just put yourself out there. Okay, easier for me to say, right? In my thi...

James Killick's Blog
Thoughts from writing's front line. Friday, 5 April 2013. Is craft killing your creativity? You know why you're here. You have a story to tell. A good story. The pictures in your head are vivid, the characters rich, your life-experiences unique and particular to you. No one can see the world through your eyes. Nobody can ever tell your story but you. Words are not enough. You learn about structure, pace and narrative. The importance of character, the distinction between story and plot. Craft is the means...

Simple Weight Loss
This is my record of how I lose weight by applying simple diet, gentle exercise and a lot of will power. I am not dictating how to lose weight, and I am hoping to loose a lot of weight in a short time with minimal exercise, but keeping the cost as low as possible too.
