Their songs were inspirational, generation changing, and magical in a way. The imagery in Dorothy Parker’s poem is slight but having most of nouns capitalized at the beginning of the verses really makes the imagery strong in my mind. Razors, Rivers, Acids, Guns, Nooses, and Gas make me think that this is a poem that is reaching out to someone that might be depressed and contemplating suicide. When reading Money by Dana Gioia I immediately thought about how many people are so obsessed over money. I believe the speaker in the poem is trying to depict money as a toxic thing because money becomes peoples main concern in life and they loss sight of the valuable things in life. In the first stanza the speaker uses descriptive words that we use to associate with money. Cash, stash,rhino, jack. Or just plain dough. The next stanza uses words to describe people spending money. Holds heads above water.
