Ultimate: This Things I Believe: Nationals Format
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2011/04/nationals-format.html
Sunday, 10 April 2011. Just finished another disappointing Nationals campaign. HoS came close, but couldn't close it out when it mattered. I did some thinking about the format of Nationals though and had an idea:. Reduce the number of teams to 12 with two pools of 6. Much better level of competition. Top 4 seeds don't get a free pass on day 1. Much more chance that Div 2 Nationals will be successful. Interested to here other people's thoughts on this. Just got a few more pros rubes. Allocations would be ...

Ultimate: This Things I Believe: March 2010
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 9 March 2010. Was in Brisbane for the BCI at the end of February. HoS was quite understrength, but it was still a worthwhile tournament. Self refereed gives right result. Informing a team-mate if they have made a wrong or unnecessary call or caused a foul or violation. Rules should be interpreted by the players directly involved in the play, or by players who had the best perspective on the play. It's a self refereed sport - we are ALL referees. I suffered my first serious case of cramp on the w...

Ultimate: This Things I Believe: December 2010
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Friday, 31 December 2010. Apologies for the break in posting. Here is some action from Heads of State at the 2010 World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague. I threw 2 goals and caught 2 this game, and luckily for me they are all captured in this footage. My proudest moment in this footage is my cutting at 4:20:. Hard cut away from the disc. Sharp turn back under for the easy pass. Quick pass off back to the handler to put them in power position. Clear back to the stack, still checking in with the disc.

Ultimate: This Things I Believe: Turnover Responsibility
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2011/01/turnover-responsibility.html
Saturday, 15 January 2011. I have been thinking lately about turnovers and who is ultimately responsible for them. I think that the majority of the time, in high level Ultimate, turnovers are less the result of good D, or bad work by the receiver, but are the fault of the thrower. Here is my extremely scientific breakdown of how often I believe each of these roles is responsible for different types of turnovers:. Throw goes to ground. So what does this mean? Yeah, this is pretty much how I view things too.

Ultimate: This Things I Believe: April 2009

Monday, 27 April 2009. Nationals 2009 Part 1. Heads of State came third at Nats which was a great result. What did I learn? Call them at a set time/score. Call them between points when about to play D. Only call them on O after multiple turns in the same point. Never call timouts outside the endzone. More to come soon. Wednesday, 1 April 2009. My first layout callahan. This evening I finally did it. On the drive home all I had to do was think of that moment and a smile came to my face. Goodbye 2010…...

Ultimate: This Things I Believe: April 2010
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 23 April 2010. Just about to head of to Adelaide for the National Championships. But I red this in the paper and thought it was worth taking note of:. Dumb forwards lead too early and to the wrong spots. They don't understand what the strengths and weaknesses are of the teammates ahead of them. They don't continually prowl their forward line looking to wrongfoot their opponent and they can't read the play two and three steps ahead as it unfolds. Robert Walls - The Age. Ultimate: This Things I Believe: February 2010
http://rjhberg-disc.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Friday, 19 February 2010. This is my primary focus at the moment – how to make the correct choices with the disc. A while back and came up with the following:. 8220;My aim as a thrower is to be able to take advantage of any opportunities that are presented.”. But lately my thoughts have been fluctuating between two ideas:. 1 make the decision based on the throws you’ve got, or. 2 make the decision based on the opportunities you’ve got. Make the decision based on the throws you’ve got. Match the throw to ...

Sunday, 17 May 2009. Nationals 2009 Part 2. Eventually the saga continues:. Adjusting my deep game. I scored a lot of goals at Nationals (the most for HoS). From our horizontal set up I had the freedom to cut deep at will and a bunch of throwers prepared to put it to me. But when I had to play teams again, it seemed that now it's not only Johnny Mac that knows I want to cut deep! Eventually, but too late, I think I figured it out - the point is longer than the first few passes. That I need to remember.
