Startpreis: 1.160 EUR. Jan Steen wird um 1626 als Sohn eines Brauers in Leiden geboren. Seine malerische Ausbildung erhält er bei Dirck Hals 1646 an der Universität von Leiden. In Utrecht ist Steen der Schüler N. Kupfers, später nimmt er auch in Haarlem bei Adrian van Ostede Unterricht. 1648 ist Jan Steen Mitbegründer der Malergilde St. Lukas in Leiden, verlässt aber nach seiner Hochzeit mit der Tochter Jan van Goyens 1649 Leiden, um bis 1653 in Den Haag zu arbeiten.
