The Needle Files: May 2014
http://theneedlefiles.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 27 May 2014. ICONS - jewellery for the famous and infamous, pieces reflecting cultural and design icons. I am currently showing in an ACJ Members' exhibition. A special piece I made for Patti Smith, inspired by her book Woolgathering. The materials I used were: Hand felted surface, Italian silks, silver, gold, English paper pieced patchwork, faceted blood (stones). This is the third annual Members' exhibition, following the 2012 Diamond Jubilee and 2013 STAIN-LESS exhibitions. Links to this post.

Tuesday, 21 July 2015. Making More: Project Update. The Making More project. I was working on for over a year, is now a self sustaining making group, with the cohort leading it's own workshops to teach it's new members how to make the brooches. I thought I would share an update on their activities since we officially launched the "LV21 Making More Jewellery" at Christmas last year. During May the group took part in the National Voluntary Arts Week 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). EXPO ‘BAS...

The Needle Files: July 2014

Wednesday, 23 July 2014. Things We Do in Bed: Danson House. On Monday I visited a quilt exhibition curated by Tracy Chevalier. Alongside quilts the reader learns about the history of the Underground Railroad in America which helped slaves escape. The Quaker religion was also an important aspect to the book and this was also really interesting. It is an amazing book, which partly influenced the making of my recent neckpiece I made for Patti Smith, in the ACJ Icons show. Also another favourite of mine.

Monday, 24 March 2014. Making More: Felt Research. As part of my research on felt brooches, I have been working from some old patterns from a Dryad handbook. It was interesting to see the instructions from many decades ago, with hand drawn patterns. Some of the descriptions are not very politically correct for nowadays. The language used and the changes in society was as interesting as the patterns themselves. Links to this post. Tuesday, 18 March 2014. Making More: Onboard LV21. Links to this post.

Tuesday, 16 December 2014. LV21 Making More: First Outing! Make do and Mend: Christmas on the home front", at the Royal Engineers Museum. In Kent was the setting for the first outing of the LV21 "Making More" brooches, we have been developing over the last year. I visited the 1940's Christmas event last year as part of my research for the LV21. Commission, so it was fitting I would return again this year as a finale to the first stage of the project.
