Sustainability – the problem of cups – Ongoing Biography

https://janedickson.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/sustainability-the-problem-of-cups

Sustainability – the problem of cups. September 11, 2013. Climate change is a condition under which human beings will have to make choices about such matters as economic development and the way we govern ourselves (Rayner 2009:xxii). One of the ways people have responded to climate change is by becoming more sustainable. But, as we know, it is not always clear what sustainability is. For example, Meadowcroft. 2009) says it is a slogan; others, a positive vision; Dryzek. 1991): an inevitable outcome.

An Indigenous Feminist’s take on the Ontological Turn: ‘ontology’ is just another word for colonialism. October 26, 2014. Originally posted on Urbane Adventurer: Amiskwacî. Personal paradigm shifts have a way of sneaking up on you. It started, innocently enough, with a trip to Edinburgh to see the great Latour discuss his latest work in February 2013. Halloween Gingerbread Persons – Ongoing Biography

https://janedickson.wordpress.com/2013/10/29/halloween-gingerbread-persons

October 29, 2013. Inspired by the Great British Bake-off. And needing a break from writing, I tried my hand at baking gingerbread persons for Halloween. The recipe came from the BBC website. Lying about waiting to be eaten. Icing skills obviously need more work, but overall I was quite pleased. They don’t look scary: they look like they just need a cuddle. And because there is always a little dough left over:. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). You a...

Cake Pops – Ongoing Biography

https://janedickson.wordpress.com/2014/05/17/cake-pops

May 17, 2014. May 17, 2014. I’ve seen cake pops rise in popularity in magazines and online and decided to try them out.The silicone mould, bought online was just over 3 (they can be as much as 12) and used a ginger cake mix for the first batch. Grease the mould just right. Not enough and the pops stick – as in the photo above. Too much oil and the pops are greasy. I used margarine, but spray oil would work too. Sprinkles, gold stars and popping candy toppings. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Green roof for a giant – Ongoing Biography

https://janedickson.wordpress.com/2012/07/31/green-roof-for-a-giant

Green roof for a giant. July 31, 2012. July 31, 2012. I have been watching the development of the visitor’s centre at the Giant’s Causeway on the North Antrim Coast, near my home town of Ballycastle for the past year or more and now it is completed. I visited recently, just after it opened. Architect’s rendering of the new Centre. The stone is local basalt, from Kilrea, I’m reliably informed and is formed by the same lava flow that made the Causeway. Grass roof with skylights and cliff in distance. Click...

The London Brownie Inspectorate. A fine WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: August 2013. Oliver’s Bakery Brownies. August 31, 2013. After a summer of so-so brownies we were passing through Borough Market in London and came across these from Oliver’s Bakery. At 11cm X 7cm X 3cm they are large and when I asked for only one, the lady behind the counter sorted me out the largest one she could find, which was very kind. … Continue reading →. https://londonbrownieinspectorate.wordpress.com/2013/06/30/deliverance-brownies

The London Brownie Inspectorate. A fine WordPress.com site. June 30, 2013. The brownie arrives warm and with a little pot of single (pouring) cream and costs 4.80 each. At 11cm x 7cm x 2cm it is large and definitely for two people. Topped with hazelnuts, it sits seductively in chocolate sauce, so it is a real treat. The brownie it sweet and soft but not particularly chocolaty, with a lightish texture, not squidgy. Ratings: warm 5/10 cold 7/10. Sorry, too greedy to take photos! Brownies from Outsider Tart.

The London Brownie Inspectorate. A fine WordPress.com site. The First Brownies are in! April 20, 2013. The first brownies, and the brownies which inspired the website are from Love and Cake. We bought them at the Herne Hill Sunday market in South London. They are 2.50 each and for this you get a really large brownie – measuring in at 8cm by 6cm by 3cm deep. Love and Cake do a variety of brownies and we got the chocolate ones which are made with Green and Blacks. Fernandez and Wells brownies →. You are co...

The London Brownie Inspectorate. A fine WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: April 2013. Fernandez and Wells brownies. April 28, 2013. Bruce brought a Fernandez and Wells brownie home last week, from the South Kensington branch. They were a reasonable size, (6.5 X 5 X 2.5cm) which was just as well as they were very expensive.
