Jane took up photography with encouragement from her father at home in the Peak District. Before going to architecture school she had a year out and lived in Athens, Rome and Paris. Images from her travels provided the foundation of her architectural photography portfolio. The blue Mediterranean skies and buildings from every age of European culture were new subjects.

Jane has contributed features to a number of design journals including the Art and Architecture Journal , Architecture Today, Light, Lighting Design and regularly lectures.Jane constantly refers to daylight and the artists who like her enjoyed both Yorkshire and Cornwall as being part of her inspiration. Her book Reflections on Light, illustrated with her own photographs, draws heavily on these themes. Her contribution to The Patten People series New Horizons.

An understanding of glass, windows and roof light design has always been as important as understanding luminaire performance. Jane's visits to The Peaks and Cornwall have provided her with a rich portfolio of images of nature. In London she had started to experiment with designs derived from photographs which she digitally enhanced. The techniques were applied to architectural projects in central London for an office reception area. Super enlarged images on canvas created a bold statement. Flora from the moors and ropes from the coast are other subjects.
