Larr; View Portfolio. May 27, 2014. I began this pastel portrait while demonstrating at the Hobbycraft store in Basildon, Essex. The majority of the work was completed using hard block pastels on a charcoal coloured pastel board, the final highlights were added with soft white handmade pastel. I chose a black velvet mount and an antique gold frame to enhance the rich tones of the tiger’s coat.

A previous client commissioned this pastel portrait for her daughter’s Christmas present as she sadly lost her two year old pet cat ‘Alfie’ to illness in 2012. The background was a shaded mix of greens and blues to create a turquoise hue and act as a complimentary colour to the subject matter. Eventually we would like to have our other two cats drawn by you to complete our collection!

Larr; View Portfolio. July 13, 2014. I started this portrait while delivering a pastel demonstration in the Hobbycraft store in Basildon, during January 2014. It remained unfinished on my studio wall until May when I decided to continue with it. I love ginger cats so much I couldn’t resist it any longer! The background was also completed in soft pastels in a range of dark green shades to accentuate the eyes.
