http://michellesmemorandum.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Caution: Gingerbread Construction Zone. Sunday, December 05, 2010. The church college group stages the gingerbread construction contest to end all gingerbread construction contests. One house, built by a member of my family who shall remain unnamed, is dumpy enough that we send it to "the other side of the tracks.". View my complete profile. Memorandum d'Michelle: Katya's Ph.D. Piano Recital at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
http://michellesmemorandum.blogspot.com/2013/11/katyas-phd-piano-recital-at-university.html
Katya's Ph.D. Piano Recital at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Sunday, November 24, 2013. My friend Katya performed the first of three piano recitals in her Ph.D. program on Nov. 24 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. As someone who's memorized maybe two classical piano pieces in my whole life, and who is paralyzed at the thought of performing at length from memory, I have the utmost respect for musicians like her. Na zdorovie (cheers) - a. Job well done, Katya! View my complete profile. Tim McG...

Memorandum d'Michelle: Sin City Opera's "The Medium" at The Onyx Theater
http://michellesmemorandum.blogspot.com/2013/11/sin-city-operas-medium-at-onyx-theater.html
Sin City Opera's "The Medium" at The Onyx Theater. Saturday, November 09, 2013. You're going to have to ignore the fact the The Onyx theater is in a pretty seedy shopping area, sandwiched between what appears to be a clothing store for male strippers and a sex show that's recently been sued by the county because it's too raunchy for Las Vegas. It's a charming little opera, with half a dozen actors accompanied by a keyboard and cellist, and it leaves you wondering about the blurred lines between the natur...

Memorandum d'Michelle: On Homelessness and Dogs
http://michellesmemorandum.blogspot.com/2010/11/on-homelessness-and-dogs.html
On Homelessness and Dogs. Wednesday, November 24, 2010. My colleague Greyson wrote a pretty fascinating article. In today's paper - he interviewed a few people about to get kicked out of their tent city in town. There's a vibrant, rotating homeless shelter here sponsored by churches, but the problem is, there's no room for dogs. And many homeless people have dogs. Homelessness has less to do with the economy and much more to do with the quality of your human connections. View my complete profile. The Cas...

Saturday, January 01, 2011. The Polar Bear Swim and the dance party got cancelled, but the New Year's Eve house party with the best people in Grass Valley was a fabulous way to ring in 2011. The World's Largest Coffee Cake, and Other Bridal Shower Misadventures. Saturday, July 31, 2010. I wanted to cook up the bridal shower brunch of the century for Melissa. But we only started cooking at 9 pm the night before, and our best-laid plans quickly went awry . Monday, July 05, 2010. Pretty sweet announcement time this weekend at my church in Long Beach. I guess they're starting a salsa fitness class for church members. View my complete profile. Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World.

Misadventures of a Carnivorous Rindels at a Vegan Potluck. Saturday, October 02, 2010. Earlier this week, I was assigned to cover a "visioning workshop" for community members to discuss ideas for re-purposing a large, vacant building in town. This workshop was to be a potluck - something that I might have been completely cool about, did I not live in the absolute epicenter of the vegan/grow local/free range movement. My first stop was Grocery Outlet, across the street from my office. Word from the wi...

Memorandum d'Michelle: June 2010
http://michellesmemorandum.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Three Things I (Kinda Sorta) Invented. Monday, June 28, 2010. Every so often, I discover an invention that - coincidentally - I dreamed up ten years ago. Following are three examples of this phenomenon. 1 McDonald's Big Kids Meal. As a fourth grader, I realized that Happy Meal portions were much too smaller for the big kids in the PlayPlace. But lettuce is gross, so a Big Mac is out of the question. My solution? I haven't received royalties yet, but maybe they just got lost in the mail. Or the like. ...
