Jane's Backyard Chickens: Hummingbird Babies

Now that I have the hummingbird feeders up and the right mixture in them I have tons of hummers. I managed to get pictures of a baby sitting on the fence. Here he is fluffing up a bit and doing some preening. I am not sure what the interaction between parent and baby is here. I haven't observed him eating at the feeders or being fed by a parent. After about two weeks of hanging out on the trees and being fed by the parent he finally made it to the feeder. I saw him flying near it yesterday but couldn't bring himself to land on it. Today that is not a problem! He is really pigging out. The adult male is on the right and the young male is on the left. Here is a close up of the little guy. He has really lost his round baby body and looks so much more like the adult and it's only been two weeks. Comments: (you may use HTML tags for style).

When you keep chickens ( or any animals) you have a responsibility to keep them safe. I have gone through several hen areas and each one gets better. Over the last year we did loose two hens to a mink and one to an owl. Each time I rebuilt their home. more. They were only three days old when I brought them home. I needed to find a place inside where they could be safe and warm. I also needed to start getting them used to the dogs and the dogs used to them. more. Chickens on the move!

Beulah says there is no reason to use chicken when beef is so much better in a Cordon Bleu. This recipe serves 4. more. Beulah says that's just disgusting! Ella says Chicken Marsala is really all about the sauce so why not try it with prawns? Mona says what's up with Buffalo wings. First off did you know they are actually chicken?
