The road was actually in pretty good condition, for Bolivia, but as we wound up ever higher I remembered with some alarm that Potosí is very high, higher than La Paz, at 4070 metres (13,420 feet). Saturday, November 29, 2008. Hookah pipes and Shoeshine boys. This week was quiet at work. I am finishing up a training needs assessment for the Sucre FONCRESOL team and the Communal Bank members. Outside of work, however, this week was full of unexpected experiences. Following the street party, our group moved on to a Shisha bar where they smoke hookah pipes. When in Bolivia . . . Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Well, I seem to have landed in a little bit of heaven. Sucre is indeed extremely beautiful, a lovely white colonial city with red tiled roofs. Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Todos Santos - All Saints Day. Castillo de la Glorieta. The Castillo itself has no furnishings, as it was stripped down long ago. Nonetheless, it´s strange oriental grandeur remains. I particularly enjoyed the eccentric details of the building, such as the gargoyles and little gold bats on the ceiling.
